Job description

Description Overview As a top-performing charter school in our county and state, Dayspring Academy seeks individuals who thrive in a fast-paced environment, strive for excellence, and are dedicated to their team and the families they serve.

This position is responsible for assisting classroom teachers with the delivery of class instruction and management. This position will work with individual students or small groups on activities which have been assigned by the teachers.

Responsibilities

Duties of this position include but are not limited to: Classroom Management Assisting the teacher with maintaining a classroom environment conducive to effective learning. Assisting with duties that require movement of students. Provide structure in the classroom by developing and reinforcing school-wide rules and expectations Ensure smooth operation of all classroom instructional functions without excuses or exceptions Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials, equipment, and facilities Knowledge of Subject Matter Communicating accurate knowledge of subject matter in a comprehensible manner using language and style appropriate to the learner. Applying concepts, laws, and rules relevant to subject matter. Demonstrating a breadth of subject matter knowledge that enables students to approach and to interrelate topics from a variety of perspectives, interests, and points of view. Using the current references, materials, and technologies of the subject field in a manner appropriate to the developmental stage of the learner. Demonstrating the ability to check student comprehension of subject matter and providing accurate feedback to students. Planning For Instruction Assisting the teacher with the design of the academic program based on the assessed needs of students. Preparing instructional materials. Assisting the teacher with preparation and implementation of lesson plans for students based on assessed needs and in accordance with the school’s philosophy and curriculum system. Delivery of Instruction Providing academic assistance and support for individual and/or small groups of students as directed by and under the supervision of the teacher. Assisting the teacher with effective utilization of media and technology in the classroom. Deliver lesson plan in the absence of the teacher. Use consistent school-wide practices and individualized methods to engage students in the classroom Provide varied instructional techniques and opportunities through technology, individual practice, and/or guided groups designed to meet the educational, social, and emotional needs of students Assessment of Student Performance Assisting the teacher with administration of appropriate assessments designed to measure and observe student progress. Assisting the teacher with evaluating student progress on a regular basis and providing feedback to students and parents. Communication Establishing and maintaining cooperative relations with other employees. Assisting the teacher with establishing and maintaining open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning academic and behavioral progress of assigned students. Assisting the teacher with preparing progress reports to school personnel and to parents to include grading assignments and other tasks. Professional Development Continuing professional growth through educational inservice, meetings and professional literature. Other Professional Responsibilities Assisting the teacher with taking necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials, equipment and facilities. Assisting the teacher with ensuring that each student in the program has the necessary records in his/her permanent record and/or portfolio. Performing other responsibilities, as directed. Reports To: Campus Principal

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: All employees must be fingerprinted and pass a background screening process by the Clearinghouse. High school diploma or equivalent DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associate’s degree, OR 60 hours of college/university level coursework, OR 3 years of Instructional Assistant experience, OR demonstrated proficiency on district assessment.
