  • Category: Entry LevelThe Urban Youth is responsible for providing practical experiences that enhance skill development and foster social interactions, essential for workplace readiness. These activities allow individuals to practice teamwork, communication, and problem-solving in real-world settings. Additionally, successful participation can boost self-esteem and confidence, making individuals more prepared for employment through volunteerism. The Urban Youth must maintain a supportive and encouraging demeanor to foster a positive communication environment. Be able to be on time and present for the entirety of scheduled shifts. Assist and participate in community activity groups (social and volunteering). Must focus on the safety of the individuals during pick-ups, drop-offs, and activities. To minimize the risk of falls, assist individuals in and out of the van. Assist on watching the individuals while out in the community to ensure their safety. (Eyes On Approach) Understanding cognitive disabilities and their implications for the individual’s daily life functions and comprehension. Being patient and assist during explaining instructions to individuals and be willing to repeat instructions when necessary. Being flexible, willing, and understanding of the need to change daily groups, volunteering sites, and van assignments. Assisting on executing daily tasks such as completing paperwork thoroughly. Assist in developing community-based activities to enhance skills and confidence. Provide innovative ideas of places to visit and lunch sites. Be willing to participate in Vocational, Health & Wellness, Practical Life and Art, Culture & Community. Help with the general scope of the department as needed (paperwork, special projects, other departments such as Pre-Ets). Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Interest in pursuing a career in the Human Service field Able to work with persons with cognitive disabilities Available to work in the Dorchester Area
