Position Summary

The Assistant Track & Field Coach is a full-time, exempt position responsible for assisting the Head Track & Field Coach with the overall operation, instruction, development, administration, and success of the Lane College Track & Field Program. This position supports student-athlete development, practice and competition preparation, recruiting, academic success, team travel, equipment management, and compliance with Lane College, Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and National Collegiate Athletic Association rules and regulations. The Assistant Track & Field Coach is expected to promote a positive, competitive, disciplined, and student-centered athletic environment that reflects the mission, values, and standards of Lane College. Duties and Responsibilities

The Assistant Track & Field Coach will be responsible for the following duties: Assist the Head Track & Field Coach with planning, organizing, and conducting practices, workouts, conditioning sessions, team meetings, and competition preparation activities. Provide instruction and coaching to student-athletes in track and field fundamentals, techniques, event-specific skills, training methods, conditioning, and overall athletic development. Assist with the development of student-athletes in assigned event areas, which may include sprints, hurdles, jumps, throws, distance, relays, or multi-event training, depending on program needs. Support meet-day operations, including warm-ups, event preparation, athlete check-in, competition strategy, performance review, and student-athlete supervision. Assist with scouting, performance analysis, reviewing results, developing training plans, and preparing reports to support individual and team improvement. Assist with the recruitment of qualified student-athletes who meet the academic, athletic, and character expectations of Lane College. Support the academic success and retention of student-athletes by encouraging class attendance, monitoring progress when appropriate, and referring students to campus resources as needed. Promote discipline, accountability, teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, leadership, and personal responsibility among student-athletes. Assist with team travel, including transportation, lodging, meals, supervision, itineraries, and related travel logistics. Help maintain track and field equipment, uniforms, supplies, inventory, and athletic facilities used by the program. Support fundraising activities, community engagement, camps, clinics, recruiting events, and other athletic department initiatives as assigned. Maintain confidentiality regarding student-athlete records, team matters, personnel information, and institutional business. Follow all Lane College policies, Athletics Department procedures, SIAC regulations, and NCAA rules and regulations. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Track & Field Coach, Director of Athletics, or designee. Qualifications Required Qualifications The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required. Previous track and field coaching, competing, training, or related athletic experience required. Knowledge of track and field rules, techniques, training principles, event-specific development, and athlete safety. Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with student-athletes, coaches, staff, faculty, alumni, and the community. Ability to mentor, motivate, and support student-athletes in a positive and professional manner. Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as required by the track and field schedule. Commitment to academic integrity, student-athlete welfare, NCAA compliance, and the mission of Lane College. Ability to pass a background check and meet all employment requirements of Lane College.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include: Collegiate track and field coaching or competing experience. Experience coaching or recruiting at the high school, club, junior college, or collegiate level. Familiarity with NCAA Division II rules and regulations. CPR, First Aid, or athletic safety certification. Experience working in a college or university athletic department. Experience coaching multiple track and field event groups. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The Assistant Track & Field Coach should demonstrate the ability to: Teach track and field fundamentals, advanced techniques, and event-specific skills. Develop effective training plans that support athletic performance, safety, and long-term student-athlete development. Communicate effectively and professionally with student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and campus partners. Build positive and appropriate relationships with student-athletes. Maintain professionalism, sound judgment, and composure in a competitive athletic environment. Support the academic, athletic, personal, and social development of student-athletes. Work collaboratively with the Head Coach and Athletics Department staff. Understand and follow institutional, conference, and NCAA compliance requirements. Maintain appropriate boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards at all times. Work Schedule This is a full-time, exempt position. The work schedule may vary based on practices, competitions, recruiting activities, team travel, meetings, and athletic department needs. Evening, weekend, and occasional holiday work may be required. Physical Requirements This position may require the ability to: Stand, walk, bend, reach, and move for extended periods during practices, meets, and athletic events. Demonstrate or assist with track and field techniques and drills when appropriate. Lift, carry, and move athletic equipment, uniforms, supplies, and related materials. Work outdoors in various weather conditions during practices and competitions. Travel with the team for competitions and athletic-related activities. Work in athletic facilities, outdoor tracks, training areas, and other sports-related environments. NCAA Compliance Requirements All candidates acknowledge and agree to adhere to all applicable rules and regulations set forth by the National Collegiate Athletic Association as they pertain to their role at Lane College. This includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities: 1.
