Position Summary

The Assistant Volleyball Coach is a part-time position responsible for assisting the Head Volleyball Coach with the overall operation, instruction, development, and administration of the Lane College Volleyball Program. This position supports student-athlete development, practice and game preparation, recruiting, academic success, team travel, equipment management, and compliance with Lane College, Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and National Collegiate Athletic Association rules and regulations. The Assistant Volleyball Coach is expected to promote a positive, competitive, and student-centered athletic environment that reflects the mission, values, and standards of Lane College. Essential

Duties and Responsibilities

The Assistant Volleyball Coach will be responsible for the following duties: Assist the Head Volleyball Coach with planning, organizing, and conducting practices, workouts, team meetings, and game preparation activities. Provide instruction to student-athletes in volleyball fundamentals, techniques, strategies, conditioning, and overall skill development. Assist with player development in areas including serving, passing, setting, attacking, blocking, defense, communication, and court awareness. Support game-day operations, including warm-ups, bench management, in-game coaching, statistics, and post-game review. Assist with scouting opponents, reviewing film, preparing reports, and developing strategies to support team performance. Assist with the recruitment of qualified student-athletes who meet the academic, athletic, and character expectations of Lane College. Support the academic success and retention of student-athletes by encouraging class attendance, monitoring progress when appropriate, and referring students to campus resources as needed. Promote discipline, accountability, teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, leadership, and personal responsibility among student-athletes. Assist with team travel, including transportation, lodging, meals, supervision, and related travel logistics. Help maintain volleyball equipment, uniforms, supplies, inventory, and athletic facilities used by the volleyball program. Support fundraising activities, community engagement, camps, clinics, and other athletic department initiatives as assigned. Maintain confidentiality regarding student-athlete records, team matters, personnel information, and institutional business. Follow all Lane College policies, Athletics Department procedures, SIAC regulations, and NCAA rules and regulations. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Volleyball Coach, Director of Athletics, or designee. Qualifications Required Qualifications The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required. Previous volleyball playing, coaching, or training experience required. Knowledge of volleyball rules, techniques, strategies, and player development. Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with student-athletes, coaches, staff, faculty, alumni, and the community. Ability to mentor, motivate, and support student-athletes in a positive and professional manner. Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as required by the volleyball schedule. Commitment to academic integrity, student-athlete welfare, NCAA compliance, and the mission of Lane College. Ability to pass a background check and meet all employment requirements of Lane College.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include: Collegiate volleyball playing or coaching experience. Experience coaching or recruiting at the high school, club, junior college, or collegiate level. Familiarity with NCAA Division II rules and regulations. CPR, First Aid, or athletic safety certification. Experience working in a college or university athletic department. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The Assistant Volleyball Coach should demonstrate the ability to: Teach volleyball fundamentals and advanced techniques. Communicate effectively and professionally with student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and campus partners. Build positive and appropriate relationships with student-athletes. Maintain professionalism, sound judgment, and composure in a competitive athletic environment. Support the academic, athletic, personal, and social development of student-athletes. Work collaboratively with the Head Coach and Athletics Department staff. Understand and follow institutional, conference, and NCAA compliance requirements. Maintain appropriate boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards at all times. Work Schedule This is a part-time position. Work hours may vary based on practice schedules, competitions, recruiting activities, team travel, meetings, and athletic department needs. Evening, weekend, and occasional holiday work may be required. Physical Requirements This position may require the ability to: Stand, walk, bend, reach, and move for extended periods during practices, games, and athletic events. Demonstrate volleyball techniques and drills when appropriate. Lift, carry, and move volleyball equipment, uniforms, supplies, and related materials. Travel with the team for competitions and athletic-related activities. Work in indoor athletic facilities and other sports-related environments. NCAA Compliance Requirements All candidates acknowledge and agree to adhere to all applicable rules and regulations set forth by the National Collegiate Athletic Association as they pertain to their role at Lane College.
