Job description

  • St.
  • Luke’s School, a secular (non-religious), college-preparatory day school serving grades 5 through 12 in New Canaan, Connecticut, seeks a part-time French teacher to teach 1 or 2 sections of high school French.
  • A successful candidate will join a team that includes 6 Spanish teachers, 3 French teachers, and 3 Mandarin teachers.
  • The WL program is known regionally and nationally for its innovations, use of cutting-edge technology, and total immersion modern language classes.
  • Since 2015, the St.
  • Luke’s French program is the only school in the USA to have been consistently awarded the status of “AATF Exemplary French Program with Distinction”: the highest rank of French programs nationally.
  • Primary Job Responsibilities: Teach part-time course load of 1 or 2 sections of high school French Attend monthly Department meetings and occasional other required meetings in person or via Zoom.
  • Make arrangements to provide extra help for students as needed.
  • Schedule This position is suited to a teacher seeking the flexibility of a part-time schedule.
  • SLS follows a rotating 6-day schedule, so there is no such thing as a “Monday schedule"; rather there is a Day 1 schedule, a Day 2 schedule, and so forth.
  • SLS Upper School classes meet 4 times per six day cycle; classes are 60 minutes long.
  • In addition, part-time teachers can expect to provide about 2 hours of extra help in total to students each week, on average.
  • Preparation for classes and grading student work may all be completed at home; part-time employees only have to be on campus to teach their classes and occasionally attend faculty meetings.
  • New employees attend a week-long orientation in August, prior to the start of school.
