Role Description

  • We are seeking a compassionate, collaborative, and committed ESY (Extended School Year) Teacher to join our summer programming team. This teacher will support scholars in maintaining and strengthening critical academic, behavioral, communication, and functional skills identified through their IEP goals during the summer months. Our ideal candidate brings flexibility, patience, and a joyful presence while creating a structured and engaging learning environment that supports scholar growth. This role requires strong collaboration with paraeducators, related service providers, and families to ensure continuity of services and individualized support for scholars with diverse learning needs. The ESY Teacher will provide targeted instruction, monitor scholar progress, and maintain compliance with all special education requirements throughout the ESY program.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement instruction aligned to scholars’ IEP goals during the ESY program. Provide targeted academic, behavioral, communication, and functional skill support to scholars with disabilities. Create a structured, safe, and engaging summer learning environment that promotes consistency and growth. Collaborate daily with paraeducators and related service providers to ensure scholars receive appropriate supports and accommodations. Support scholars with communication needs using AAC devices, visual supports, schedules, and other individualized strategies as needed. Monitor and document scholar progress throughout the ESY program. Maintain accurate attendance, service logs, progress monitoring, and required special education documentation. Communicate proactively with families and school staff regarding scholar progress and needs. Use data and observations to adjust instructional practices and supports. Follow all special education laws, policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.

Qualifications

Education Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university Valid teaching certification preferred Special Education certification preferred Experience working with scholars with disabilities preferred Experience implementing IEP accommodations, behavior supports, and small-group instruction preferred Mindset Requirements: Believe that there is not a more urgent task than providing an outstanding academic and character education to ALL scholars regardless of race, socioeconomic status, or gender. Compensation

  • Élan Academy offers competitive compensation for summer programming staff at a rate of $30 per hour. ESY staff members are equipped with the tools and resources needed to support scholar success throughout the program, including instructional materials, technology access, and collaborative support from school leadership and related service providers.
