Job Description

The Professional Counselor I, under general supervision, provides basic individual and group counseling. Develops and maintains support groups in the context of course instruction. Creates and enacts educational presentations regarding health-related topics and issues. A Presidential Proclamation issued on September 19, 2025, imposes a $100,000 fee on all new H‑1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025, and Texas A&M University–Central Texas will not pay this fee. Additionally, a moratorium issued by Governor Abbott on January 27, 2026, restricts the filing of new H‑1B petitions unless approved by the Texas Workforce Commission. Accordingly, if you will now or in the future require sponsorship for employment visa status this moratorium may affect our ability to employ you should you be selected as the final candidate. Applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer.

Responsibilities

Provides direct and confidential personal/group counseling, crisis intervention, treatment planning, and referral services using appropriate treatment plans and full assessment services. Develops and conducts appropriate mental health groups. Assists in coordinating, developing, and managing training sessions for counseling students, implementing semester group workshops, and providing leadership and support related to course instructional content. Works as a team to train pre-intern counselors in individual and group counseling contexts and maintains accurate student participation records Education and Experience: Master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance, Social Work, Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or other specialty related to job function. Practical/field placement relevant to college counseling, or supervised experience related to job function. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Knowledge of psychological assessment tools and educational programming. Knowledge of training in substance abuse, cognitive-behavior therapy, and solution focused therapy. Knowledge of professional and ethical guidelines. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. Ability to present information clearly and concisely. Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Licensing / Professional Certification: Eligible for licensure as a Texas Licensed Professional Counselor-Intern (LPC-Intern), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Must maintain licensure for continued employment.
