Lead and develop the middle school cross country program by planning practices, meets, and conditioning sessions. Focus on improving student-athletes' endurance, technique, and character while ensuring their safety and well-being.
Previous coaching or running experience is preferred along with knowledge of cross country training principles. Candidates should possess strong leadership skills and a CPR/First Aid certification is preferred.
The Middle School Cross Country Coach is responsible for leading and developing the middle school’s cross country program in a positive, educational, and competitive environment. The coach will help student-athletes improve their endurance, running technique, sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, and overall character while supporting the mission and values of the school. Primary Responsibilities Plan, organize, and conduct practices, meets, conditioning sessions, and team activities for the middle school cross country team Develop training plans appropriate for middle school student-athletes and varying skill levels Teach proper running form, conditioning techniques, pacing, stretching, hydration, and race strategies Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, perseverance, and character development among student-athletes Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, travel, and team activities Ensure the safety and well-being of all athletes during workouts and competitions Communicate effectively with players, parents, administration, officials, and athletic staff Maintain team discipline and enforce school and athletic department policies Assist with scheduling, equipment management, uniforms, and meet logistics Encourage academic achievement and positive behavior among student-athletes Attend coaches meetings, athletic events, and professional development opportunities as required Represent the school and athletic program in a professional and positive manner
Previous coaching, running, or cross country experience preferred Knowledge of cross country training principles, conditioning, and race management Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills Ability to motivate, teach, and mentor middle school student-athletes Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, students, and parents CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain) Time Commitment After-school practices during the cross country season Weekly Meets Off-season communication and program support as needed Desired Characteristics Positive role model for students Passion for coaching and developing young athletes Dependable, energetic, and professional Strong commitment to student growth both on and off the course
