The Educational Specialist for the Upward Bound Classic Program is responsible for providing academic support, educational advising, and student development services to program participants. This position supports the mission of the federally funded TRIO Upward Bound Program by assisting high school students from first-generation and income-eligible backgrounds in preparing for postsecondary education.
Responsibilities
- Provide academic advising, mentoring, and educational support services to Upward Bound participants.
- Monitor student academic progress, attendance, and overall program participation.
- Assist students with goal setting, study skills, time management, and college preparation.
- Maintain regular communication with students, parents, and school personnel.
- Coordinate workshops and activities related to college readiness, financial literacy, career exploration, and academic success.
- Assist students with college admissions applications, FAFSA completion, scholarships, and financial aid processes.
- Support planning and implementation of summer enrichment and academic programming.
- Facilitate or coordinate tutoring and academic enrichment services in core subject areas.
- Assist with standardized test preparation activities (SAT/ACT).
- Support educational and cultural enrichment opportunities that promote student engagement and achievement.
- Maintain accurate student records, documentation, and program data in compliance with federal TRIO regulations.
- Assist with preparation of reports, assessments, and grant-related documentation.
- Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of student information.
- Collaborate with local schools, community organizations, faculty, and university departments to support program goals.
- Participate in recruitment, outreach, and retention initiatives.
- Represent the program at meetings, workshops, and community events as needed.
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Higher Education, Social Work, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience working with youth, college access programs, TRIO programs, or educational support services.
- Must be able to lift 10 pounds.
