Job description
- Description The Staff Physician provides compassionate, comprehensive, patient‑centered primary care to University of Iowa students.
- This role includes evaluating and treating a broad range of health concerns, performing office‑based procedures, prescribing medications, and offering health education that supports students’ well‑being and academic success.
- The physician must demonstrate strong competence in women’s health, including LARC insertion and removal, and be comfortable managing routine psychiatric conditions within the scope of family medicine.
- Specific Job Duties & Tasks Conduct comprehensive patient histories and physical exams to assess health concerns and overall wellness.
- Order and interpret laboratory tests to support diagnostic decision‑making.
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies including imaging and screening tests.
- Integrate clinical data to establish accurate diagnoses and develop evidence‑based treatment plans.
- Prescribe and dispense medications in accordance with medical guidelines and Iowa state law.
- Perform office‑based procedures including LARC insertion and removal and other procedures typical of family medicine.
- Provide routine psychiatric care appropriate to a family medicine scope, including medication management and follow‑up.
- Deliver women’s health services including annual exams, pap smears, contraception counseling, and pregnancy‑related care.
- Educate patients on disease management, prevention, medications, and wellness strategies.
- Document clinical encounters accurately and in a timely manner in the electronic health record.
- Participate in chart reviews and quality assurance activities.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members including counselors, nurses, PAs, and psychiatrists to coordinate care.
- Provide continuity of care through follow‑up visits, triage of patient messages, and ongoing management of chronic conditions.
- Promote student health and wellness through preventive care, risk‑reduction counseling, and resource referrals.
- Maintain professional competence through CME, case conferences, and ongoing learning.

- Required Qualifications Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.
- Valid license to practice medicine in the State of Iowa.
- Board certification in an applicable medical specialty at the time of hire.
- Minimum of three years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting.
- Demonstrated competence in women’s health, including routine annual health exams, pap smears, sexual health, pre pregnancy and pregnancy care, contraception management, and LARC insertion/removal.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience creating and maintaining a welcoming, and respectful environment.
- Interest in and knowledge of college health issues.
- Commitment to health promotion, preventive care, and improving student success through wellness-focused care Desired Qualifications Previous experience in college health, higher education, or a student‑centered clinical environment.
- Experience working with young adult/college‑aged populations in outpatient or primary care settings.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and strong proficiency with clinical documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Experience contributing to performance improvement, quality assurance, or clinical outcomes initiatives.
