Assistant Coach for Spirit Squads will assist in the leadership, development, and daily operations of Virginia Tech's Spirit programs including cheerleaders, HIghtechs, and the Hokiebird. This position supports student-athlete development, game day performance preparation, recruiting, choreography, and administrative operations while promoting a culture of excellence, sportsmanship, and academic success. The Assistant Coach works collaboratively with athletics administration, marketing, bands, and event management to enhance school spirit and elevate the program’s national brand. Will report directly to the Head Coach / Spirit Squads.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous coaching or instructional experience in Division I dance, cheer, or spirit programs.
  • Working knowledge of choreography, performance production, and game day operations.
  • Practical familiarity with recruiting and student-athlete development at the collegiate level.
  • Experience collaborating within a Division I athletics environment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as required.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. CPR/AED certification.

Pay Band: 2

Non-Exempt: Eligible for overtime
