Position Summary

The Temporary Long-Term Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing instructional continuity during the extended absence of a regular classroom teacher. This position is temporary in nature and assigned for a defined period or until the return of the regular teacher. The substitute will assume full classroom responsibilities, including lesson delivery, classroom management, and student assessment, in alignment with school curriculum and policies. Essential

Duties and Responsibilities

Deliver instruction based on established curriculum, lesson plans, or departmental guidance Manage classroom environment, including student behavior and engagement Maintain attendance records and other required documentation Grade assignments, quizzes, and assessments as directed Monitor and report student progress to school leadership or department chairs Communicate professionally with students, staff, and administrators Implement school policies, procedures, and instructional expectations Attend staff meetings or training sessions as required by administration Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment Perform other instructional duties as assigned Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree preferred (or as required by state/charter guidelines) Experience Prior classroom or substitute teaching experience preferred Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational setting Skills Strong classroom management skills Ability to follow curriculum and adapt instruction as needed Effective communication and organizational skills Ability to work independently and maintain structure in a classroom setting Familiarity with basic educational technology systems preferred Employment Status Temporary, time-limited assignment Assigned for duration of teacher leave or instructional need May be full-time or per diem based on school needs Not a permanent or continuing position Compensation Paid at an hourly, per diem, or daily substitute rate based on assignment Eligibility for benefits, PTO, or leave accrual is determined by school policy and employee classification Position does not confer tenure or permanent employment status Work Environment School-based classroom environment May require standing for extended periods and active classroom management Must comply with all school safety, instructional, and professional standards QualificationsQualifications Education Bachelor’s degree preferred (or as required by state/charter guidelines) Experience Prior classroom or substitute teaching experience preferred Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational setting Skills Strong classroom management skills Ability to follow curriculum and adapt instruction as needed Effective communication and organizational skills Ability to work independently and maintain structure in a classroom setting Familiarity with basic educational technology systems preferred
