- SUMMARY: The Swim Lesson Instructor is responsible for planning, organizing, and safely conducting swim lessons for participants of all ages and skill levels. This role promotes water safety and skill development in alignment with YMCA standards and values. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Conduct swim lessons in accordance with YMCA and American Red Cross guidelines. Provide individual and group swim instruction to participants of varying ages and abilities. Manage a group of up to 4 children to stay on task and engaged during lessons. Ensure the safety of all participants by enforcing pool rules and maintaining vigilant supervision at all times. Evaluate participants’ progress and adjust teaching strategies as needed to promote skill development. Communicate effectively with participants and their guardians regarding lesson progress, skills achieved, and areas for improvement. Maintain accurate records of participant attendance, skill achievements, and any incidents that may occur. Assist with the set-up and clean-up of swim lesson equipment and ensure proper storage. Attend all scheduled staff meetings, training sessions, and in-service workshops as required. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies. QUALIFICATIONS Must be 16 years of age Effectively relate to a diverse group of people The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, parents and other staff Must be able to demonstrate swimming strokes and water safety skills. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to work in an aquatic environment to teach and supervise Ability to walk, stand or sit for long periods of time. Ability to bend, kneel, push, and pull. Ability to lift up to 25lbs.. Ability to speak and write concisely and effectively Qualifications
