Job Description
- Summary The Staff Physician contributes to the academic success and personal well-being of Wake Forest University (WFU) students by providing high-quality, efficient primary and urgent medical care, as well as health promotion. This position is full-time and follows the academic calendar, with rotating calls during academic breaks, holidays, and when the clinic is closed. Essential Functions: Clinical Excellence & Direct Care: Conduct physical exams and acute/urgent care assessments for students. Manages direct patient care, including examination, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, and/or referrals. Provides health education and preventative care. Provides clinical supervision of advanced practice providers, medical students, and physicians in training. Collaborates with all clinical, administrative, and leadership personnel. Also works with campus partners to ensure holistic patient care across campus. Communicates with appropriate university officials concerning patients' medical accommodations or class recommendations. Participates in public health functions, reporting, and trend analysis at Deacon Health. Provides coverage for the after-hours nurse call line and weekend clinic coverage on a rotating basis. Specific Standards: Completes all Electronic Health Records (EHR) documentation within 24 business hours of the patient encounter to ensure accuracy and AAAHC compliance. Performs all duties and documentation in accordance with legal, regulatory, fiscal, and accreditation standards (AAAHC). Adheres to patient confidentiality and documentation, and follows established policies and procedures. Participates in quality improvement, safety, and infection control standards and drills. Provides training for Deacon Health staff, medical students/residents, and campus community as assigned by the Director. Provides clinical supervision of advanced practice providers, nurses, medical students, and physicians in training. Other Functions: Attends scheduled staff meetings and in-service presentations. Participates with other Deacon Health staff in planning, projects, and programs such as health promotion, surveys, and Division of Campus Life events. Serves on University committees, as requested. Participates in other Deacon Health specialty clinics and programs, such as allergy clinic, travel clinic. Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution. Current, unrestricted North Carolina Medical License (or ability to obtain before start date). Valid DEA Certification and BLS (CPR) Certification Board Certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine or closely related discipline. Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Minimum of 2 years of primary or urgent care experience. 1+ years in a Higher Education student health setting. Specialized knowledge in mental health, sexual health, eating disorders, Allergy serum, or sports medicine.
