bout the Role As a Respite Care Companion / Direct Support Professional, you will provide one-on-one support to children with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their home or community setting. Following a personalized plan of care, you’ll create a safe, nurturing environment that promotes confidence, independence, and meaningful connection. This role is ideal for someone who is patient, observant, and genuinely enjoys helping children grow through everyday moments and play-based experiences. You may support children with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other medical or developmental needs, offering consistency and calm during afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

What You’ll Do Build positive, supportive relationships through companionship and engagement Encourage growth and independence through play, reading, creative activities, and routines Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as meal prep, hygiene, dressing, or mobility support as needed Implement individualized care plans as directed by the care coordinator Observe and document behavior, mood, and overall well-being Communicate regularly with families and the care team Support participation in social activities and community outings when appropriate Maintain a clean, safe environment and follow all safety protocols Provide a calm, reassuring presence during moments of frustration, transition, or emotional need Accurately record time, mileage, and visit notes Respond appropriately to emergencies and report concerns promptly

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent At least 1 year of related experience (professional, volunteer, or personal) supporting individuals with special needs or in a caregiving role Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to read, write, and follow instructions in English Reliable transportation with valid auto insurance Current CPR certification (or willingness to obtain) Ability to pass a criminal background check Comfortable working independently in family homes Ability to assist with mobility needs and perform light lifting when required Schedule Options We offer flexible, pre-screened placements to fit your availability: Weekly placements: Consistent families, weekday afternoons/evenings Weekend shifts: Typically 4–6 hours per day Occasional care: Select open assignments through the My Jovie app Typical hours: Weekdays: 12 PM – 7 PM Weekends: 10 AM – 7 PM Ideal Candidate Warm, patient, and dependable Enjoys connecting with children and supporting their development Creative, engaging, and comfortable using play as a learning tool Observant and responsive to individual needs Communicative and reliable with scheduling and documentation Why Jovie?
