Overview QUALIFICATIONS: Requires demonstrated ability in the following areas: organizational skills, delegation of appropriate duties, accuracy and attention to detail in paperwork and other documentation, a strong work ethic and consistent attendance. A minimum of a high school diploma or G.E.D. required. Paraprofessional training preferred. 60 college credit hours preferred. Scheduling will be Monday through Friday during school hours, with occasional attendance after school hours for events. Must be 21 years of age. SUPERVISION: This job reports to the Teacher they are working with and has no direct reports. POSITION PHILOSOPHY: A staff member to provide student assistance during school hours at T.C. Harris School. The staff member will be expected to provide direct care services, similar to those provided by Direct Support Staff, assists in educational activities and provide written documentation as needed. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS LISTED BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Implements appropriate individualized education for students as prescribed by the Teacher
- Implements daily lesson plans for students
- Documents students’ academic, behavioral & social progress
- Helps plan and coordinate field trips for the students with the teacher
- Implements students’ BIP in the classroom
- Works with Clinicians assigned to students in classroom
- Attends Team meetings Responsibility for Students' Education 1. Reviews and becomes familiar with all education history material on each incoming student assigned to him/her. 2. Helps update Progress on IEP (i.e., goals met, percent, trials, etc.). 3. Keeps record of progress in the grade book at the discretion of the teacher. Classroom Management and Teaching 1. Provides appropriate individualized education within T.C Harris structured treatment plan, at the direction of the teacher. 2. Assumes the Role of the teacher in the absence of the classroom teacher and follows outlined lesson plans. 3. Ensures that classroom environment and activities are conducive to student development of independence, competence, and sense of self-worth.
