Job description

Lower Elementary Classroom Assistant Knoxville Montessori School is seeking a Lower Elementary Classroom Assistant for the 2026–2027 school year. This role supports the Lead Guide in maintaining a prepared Montessori elementary environment that serves the academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of children ages 6–9.

The Lower Elementary Classroom Assistant helps protect the work cycle, support student independence and responsibility, maintain the classroom environment, assist with lesson follow-through, and contribute to a calm, joyful, and consistent classroom community.

The ideal candidate is warm, organized, dependable, and able to support children with both kindness and accountability. This person should enjoy working with elementary-aged children, value Montessori philosophy, and be comfortable supporting classroom routines, follow-up work, care of the environment, transitions, and student independence.

Responsibilities

include supporting student supervision, assisting children in returning to purposeful work, supporting lesson follow-through as directed by the Lead Guide, helping students with practice or correction work, preparing classroom materials as instructed, maintaining the environment, communicating observations to the Lead Guide, attending required meetings and school events, and following KMS expectations for professionalism, confidentiality, and communication.

A bachelor’s degree is required. Experience with children, elementary education, Montessori education, or child development is preferred.
