- The Math Instructional Assistant supports Math teachers in Grades 1 through 4 providing effective mathematics instruction to students with Learning Support Plans.
- The aide works with individuals and small groups to reinforce math concepts, assist with classroom activities, monitor student progress, and help create a positive learning environment that promotes academic success for all students.
Essential
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist teachers in implementing mathematics lessons and instructional activities offering added scaffolding to students with Learning Support Plans and those at-risk of academic failure. Provide individual and small-group support to students with a Learning Support Plan and those at risk of academic failure. Reinforce mathematical concepts, problem-solving strategies, and computational skills introduced by the teacher. Monitor student understanding and provide feedback to the classroom teacher regarding student progress. Support students during classroom assignments, practice activities, and assessments. Prepare instructional materials, manipulatives, worksheets, and other classroom resources to increase differentiation for Learning Support Plan students. Maintain accurate records of student participation and progress as directed by the Director of Student Support. Assist in managing classroom behavior and promoting a positive learning environment for all learners. Supervise students during designated activities, transitions, and other assigned times. Support the use of educational technology and math learning programs, as directed by primary teachers.
Requirements
- Religious Qualifications Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred) Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy Professional Qualifications Associate or Bachelor’s Degree or college coursework in education, mathematics, or a related field.
- Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting.
- Basic knowledge of mathematics concepts appropriate for Grades 1-4.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and other professionals.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of an instructional team.
- Patience, flexibility, and a commitment to supporting student achievement.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Understanding of instructional support practices and student learning needs.

- Physical Requirements To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the aide must: Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom.
- While standing the teacher will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating Sit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading, etc.
- Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks.
- Walk on both even and uneven surfaces Deal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class Assist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation.
- It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom.
- The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events.
- The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend trainings or workshops.
