Job description

Overview The faculty will be responsible for educational leadership and student instruction on a part-time basis in Surgical Technology courses. This role will teach theory and lab courses in alignment with the Core Curriculum for Surgical Technology.

Qualifications

EDUCATION Associate's Degree Graduate of an associate-degree Surgical Technology program accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency. Required Bachelor's Degree In a health related or educational discipline. Preferred LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Required Must be certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) through the American Heart Association (AHA) at the Basic Life Support (BLS) level. Required Valid and in State Driver's License. Required EXPERIENCE Two (2) years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years. Required ABILITIES AND SKILLS Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with students, staff, and the public. Required Sensitivity to the expectations of students, faculty, and staff. Required Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form. Required Understanding of the role and responsibilities of the Surgical Technologist in clinical practice. Required Demonstrated sensitivity to diversity and multi-cultural issues. Required Knowledge and understanding of educational theory. Required Developed organizational skills. Required

Responsibilities

Instruct, supervise, and evaluate students in the courses (classroom and laboratory setting) of the Surgical Technology program. Assist with curriculum review and revision. Maintain accurate written records on Student performance. Maintain communications with program and school administrators, as appropriate. Monitor and alert program administration of needed supplies, materials, instrumentation, equipment, and maintenance as appropriate. Maintain office hours according to contractual guidelines. Assist program faculty and administrators with laboratory development, coordination, and maintenance. Attend Department meetings as requested. Complete course-level assessments at the conclusion of each semester. Ensure that all course policies and protocols are aligned with program and college policies. Model professional behavior and mentor students toward success. Perform other appropriate job-related duties as assigned by the Director. Physical Standards and Special Job Features Standing or walking for extended periods of time. Physical positioning of surgical mannequins. Fine motor/manual dexterity and visual acuity. Lifting not to exceed 50 lbs. Proof of tetanus immunization within 10 years. Pay Transparency The part-time rate for 2026/27 will be the greater of $1180 per credit or $787 per contact hour, prorated for student enrollment under seven. The approved substitute pay rate is $49.17 per hour during the first week of substituting and the prorated part-time teacher rate for consecutive substitute assignments that exceed one week.
