  • Range: $65,000.00 - $73,000.00 Salary DESCRIPTION Oakwood School encourages physical readiness in athletics, the recovery of injuries, first aid, and physical endurance and flexibility training to improve performance both on the field and off. The Athletic Trainer provides a comprehensive athletic health care and training program for all student athletes. Primary responsibilities include injury prevention, the reduction of further injury and properly administering immediate care and in conjunction with the student’s personal or school physician, development of the “return to play” practice. This is a 10-month full time position. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Serve as athletic trainer for the Oakwood School Athletics Program. Under general supervision of the Director of Physical Education and Athletics and in cooperation with the Assistant Director of Physical Education, performs the full range of daily athletic training services for students involved in athletics. Teaches students about proper stretching techniques, body toning and conditioning, nutrition, healthy lifestyle and wellbeing. Prevents, recognizes, and assesses athletic injuries. Implement preventive plans and recommend rehabilitation and reconditioning programs to treat athletic injuries using the appropriate treatments. Consults with physicians and other health professionals on injuries and treatment plans and coordinates with the coaching staff. Inform coaching staff and other department staff and school administration on the status of injuries and treatment plans. Uses a variety of therapeutic modalities in accordance with physician orders including, but not limited to, heat, cold, and rehabilitation and exercise equipment, and applies bandages, tapes, and braces to prevent and treat injuries. Advises students on how to prevent injuries and maintain their physical condition. Counsels athletes and coaching staff regarding conditioning, athletic training, and rehabilitation. Provides a daily injury report to the Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director and School Nurse. The Athletic Trainer must follow up that night with the parents of injured student-athletes who required or will require further treatment. Maintains up-to-date injury records that include - date of injury/type of injury/status updates/and return to practice date of all injured student-athletes. The trainer will also serve as the point person for all insurance claims. Recognizes when an injured athlete should be referred to a specialist and will advise both the athlete and his or her parents of this. Attends sports practices and athletic events and provides medical emergency coverage to student athletes. Travels with sports teams to away games, as needed. Maintains cleanliness of the athletic training facilities. Supervises the athletic training facility and the work of students. Develops an emergency action plan for the schools athletic department in the event of a life threatening injury and maintains expertise in emergency procedures. Maintains appropriate training room records of injuries, treatments and progress. Serves as a liaison among athletes, administrators, coaching staff, parents, physicians and any other health professionals; and work assignments may involve related activities and additional duties, as assigned. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must be able to do the following: stand for extended periods; sit for extended periods; bend and reach for filing and other job-related functions; climb up and down stairs; bend, stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull, push, and lift; reach both above and below shoulder height. Specific visual abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to visually inspect work. Manual dexterity to operate computer and other office equipment required. The physical demands described above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made.

$65,000-$73,000 Qualifications REQUIREMENTS Preferred bachelor’s or advanced degree in Kinesiology or related field ATC (Athletic Trainer Certification) credential is a required Preferred 3+ years of relevant experience at the high school and/or college level preferred Must keep their knowledge and skills current by participating in continuing education Must strictly adhere to standards of professional practice set by the national/CA certifying agency and code of ethics Knowledge: Incumbent must possess knowledge of the principles and practices of Athletic Training including conditioning and injury prevention, as well as injury assessment and rehabilitation; the full range of therapeutic modalities and their practical use; other therapeutic preventions and treatments such as taping and bracing, effective use of rehabilitation and exercise equipment; rules, regulations and guidelines established by the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) pertaining to student-athletes, their training, sports medicine care, health and safety; Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) standards for handling Blood Borne Pathogens; maintaining training room records, including Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards; and following insurance procedures; Abilities: Incumbent must be able to effectively assess and evaluate, manage and treat injuries based on their severity; develop and/or follow conditioning and rehabilitation programs; manage and treat minor injuries; use the appropriate range of appropriate therapeutic modalities, rehabilitation and exercise equipment to treat and prevent injuries; determine appropriate referrals to other health care professionals; recognize life threatening situations and administer the appropriate emergency aid; Teaching: Incumbent must have demonstrated teaching experience in stretching techniques, weight training and body toning and conditioning, nutrition, healthy lifestyle and wellbeing; Strong interpersonal and communication skills required This position must be available to work evenings and weekends per the needs of the department, which will be determined by the Director of Athletics and PE
