Job description

  • Mathematics Teacher (Grades 7–12) Position Overview The Mathematics Teacher is responsible for implementing Mystic Valley Regional Charter School’s (MVRCS) mathematics program for students in Grades 7–12.
  • Instruction follows the Saxon Math curriculum and methodology, ensuring consistency, rigor, and fidelity to the school's academic program.
  • MVRCS's high school program includes the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme.
  • Depending on assignment, Mathematics Teachers may be responsible for delivering IB coursework and preparing students for the rigorous expectations of the program.
  • The ideal candidate is committed to academic excellence, possesses strong content knowledge in mathematics, and thrives in a structured, collaborative educational environment.
  • Essential Responsibilities Implement the prescribed mathematics curriculum, including Saxon Math and, where applicable, International Baccalaureate (IB) coursework.
  • Teach up to five mathematics classes, each meeting daily.
  • Deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction using approved curriculum and instructional methodologies.
  • Develop and execute lesson plans with clearly defined learning objectives and measurable outcomes.
  • Assess student learning regularly through formal and informal assessments.
  • Prepare and distribute progress reports, report cards, and other required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Administer standardized assessments as directed by the Mathematics Department Chair and school leadership.
  • Analyze student performance data and use findings to inform instructional decisions.
  • Collaborate regularly with fellow mathematics teachers and the Mathematics Department Chair regarding curriculum, instruction, assessment, and student achievement.
  • Maintain a structured, orderly classroom environment through consistent implementation of the school's discipline and behavior management policies.
  • Participate fully in faculty meetings, professional development activities, and school-wide initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to support student success.
  • Additional Responsibilities Perform other duties as assigned by the Mathematics Department Chair, Assistant Directors, Assistant Superintendent, or Superintendent/Director.

Qualifications

Required Bachelor's degree in Mathematics or a closely related field. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze information, solve problems, and make sound decisions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, faculty, and staff. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Commitment to maintaining high academic and behavioral expectations for students. Ability to plan and implement lessons that meet school objectives and address the varying needs of students. Knowledge of mathematics content and best practices in mathematics instruction. Preferred Teaching experience in middle school and/or high school mathematics. Experience with the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. Massachusetts teaching licensure in Mathematics. Experience using student performance data to drive instructional decisions. Physical and Professional Requirements Ability to perform duties in accordance with all school policies, state regulations, and federal laws. Ability to evaluate student performance and prepare reports summarizing findings and recommendations. Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and commitment to continuous improvement. Reporting Structure This position reports directly to the Mathematics Department Chair and is evaluated annually. Employment is based on an annual appointment.
