GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES OF POSITION Treating patients/clients represent a broad range of diagnoses and conditions from the University (students, faculty, and staff) and local communities. Plan, prepare and carry out individually designed programs of physical treatment to maintain, improve or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain and prevent physical dysfunction in patients. Perform and document an initial exam, evaluating the data to identify problems and determine a diagnosis prior to intervention. Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit. Instruct patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home. Confer with the patient, medical practitioners and appropriate others to plan, implement and assess the intervention program. Document prognosis, treatment, response, and progress in patient's electronic health records. Obtain patients' informed consent to proposed interventions. Test and measure patient's strength, motor development and function, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency and record data. Identify and document goals, anticipated progress and plans for reevaluation. Provide information to the patient about the proposed intervention, its material risks and expected benefits and any reasonable alternatives. Inform the patient when diagnosis reveals findings outside the physical therapy scope of practice and refer to an appropriate practitioner. Discharge patient from physical therapy when goals or projected outcomes have been attained and provide for appropriate follow-up care or referrals.
  • Patient sessions are 1:1 for ~ 45 minutes.
  • The schedule may include hours outside of an 8:00 am - 5:00 pm schedule. Adhere to the American Physical Therapy Association – Code of Ethics for the Physical Therapist. Practice in a manner consistent with the Physical Therapy Oregon State Statute. Develop and cultivate relationships with referring practitioners. Assist with developing and implementing marketing activities. Assist with scheduling patient visits and checking patients in. Assist with maintenance of the clinic.
  • Additional opportunities include: clinical education for physical therapy students, teaching opportunities in the entry level physical therapy program (e.g., laboratory assistant or guest lecturer), and service-learning opportunities. JOB SCOPE Duties are performed as expected from an independent practitioner and work is checked or verified visually, orally and in writing on a frequent basis. Decisions are made within specific operational instructions and departmental guidelines. SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITY This position is not supervisory in nature. QualificationsEDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years of physical therapy experience and must possess an Oregon Physical Therapist License or be eligible for licensure in Oregon. Prior clinical education and teaching experience is preferred. Doctorate in physical therapy and board certification preferred. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & BEHAVIORS Technologically adept and able to learn new computer applications rapidly Experience with electronic health records, including developing workflows and optimization Ability to prioritize tasks, ask questions and assist to complete tasks. Maintains proper appearance and personal conduct for the employee’s particular job. Demonstrated experience in customer service and customers of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Demonstrates confidentiality regarding information pertaining to all students, faculty and staff, and maintain strong adherence to principles such as FERPA, HIPAA and other laws. Bilingual in Spanish is desired.
