Responsibilities
Student Support & Behavioral Intervention Assist with implementing behavioral interventions in the classroom and residential setting Respond to student behavior in accordance with established behavior management policies, including CPI strategies Utilize de-escalation techniques and, when necessary, apply approved physical interventions Reinforce positive behaviors and serve as a consistent, supportive role model Classroom & Educational Assistance Support teachers by providing instructional assistance and tutoring to students Help develop instructional materials and classroom supports under teacher guidance Assist in maintaining a structured, safe, and engaging learning environment Supervision & Daily Routines Maintain constant visual and auditory supervision of students Support daily routines, including morning preparation, transitions, and scheduled activities Conduct regular room checks and ensure student safety at all times Assist with transporting and supervising students during on- and off-campus activities (as approved) Recreation & Skill Building Assist in planning and facilitating recreational and skill-building activities Engage with students in age-appropriate activities while modeling positive behavior Encourage social development, teamwork, and appropriate peer interactions Health, Safety & Environment Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment Support students in personal hygiene, housekeeping, and daily living tasks Follow Universal Precautions and safety protocols when addressing health-related needs Conduct room and unit searches as assigned Documentation & Compliance Complete all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner, including CPI-related reporting Maintain knowledge of all policies, procedures, and program updates Participate in required trainings and maintain certifications such as CPR and First Aid Team Support & Coverage Collaborate with team members to ensure consistent care and supervision Provide coverage as needed and maintain reliable attendance Step into Aide Behavioral Counselor I responsibilities when required Skills & Attributes Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to remain calm and responsive in challenging situations Commitment to teamwork, professionalism, and student-centered care Understanding of trauma-informed practices and behavioral support strategies Dependability and flexibility to meet program needs
Qualifications
Associate’s degree in a human services-related field preferred Minimum of 0–3 years of relevant experience in human services or youth support High school diploma or equivalent required (with relevant experience) Valid driver’s license required
