Assists the Head Athletic Trainer in managing a comprehensive sports medicine program for student-athletes. Responsibilities include the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and providing coverage for practices and competitions.
Requires a bachelor's degree in a health-related field, NATA BOC certification, and licensure to practice in Michigan. A Master's degree and 2 to 5 years of experience in athletic training, particularly in college athletics, are preferred.
The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting the Head Athletic Trainer in the management and administration of a comprehensive sports medicine program for student-athletes. This includes the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses, as well as providing game and practice coverage. Essential
Assists in the daily operation of the athletic training room, ensuring a professional and safe environment for student-athletes. Provides prevention, evaluation, emergency care, and rehabilitation for athletic-related injuries. Maintains accurate and up-to-date medical records and injury reports in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations. Coordinates and schedules medical appointments and referrals for student-athletes as necessary. Provides athletic training coverage for practices and home/away competitions as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer. Communicates effectively with coaches, student-athletes, parents, and physicians regarding injury status and return-to-play protocols. Assists with the administration of pre-participation physical exams and insurance claims. Supervises student athletic trainers and interns in clinical settings. Ensures compliance with all department, institutional, and conference policies and procedures. Participates in professional development and maintains current certifications (BOC, CPR/AED).
Minimum of bachelor's degree in health related field, with a current NATA BOC certification. Master’s Degree preferred (in related field). Must have a current certification in CPR/AED. Proof of Licensure to practice athletic training in the state of Michigan. 2 to 5 years in athletic training setting preferred. Experience in college athletics will be considered an asset. Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation and positive reactions to change and conflict resolution. Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both written and oral which transcend diverse audiences. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and relate well to students, parents, faculty, staff, and others while maintaining appropriate confidentiality. Demonstrated motivational and problem solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the University. Indoor/Outdoor environment. Ability to perform under stressful situations. Prolonged sitting and standing. Use of personal computer and telephone (eye and hand strain). Some travel between locations required (own transportation). No regular lifting requirements, occasional lifting up to 75 pounds. Must be able to work an irregular schedule, evenings or Saturday as needed, additional hours during peak times or as required. Working Conditions This position requires the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as dictated by the athletic schedule. Must be able to lift and move equipment and stand for extended periods during practices and games.
