TITLE: Per Diem Campus Safety Officer

Department: Campus Safety

Employment status: Per Diem

Flsa status: Non-Exempt

Organizational relationship: Reports to Campus Safety Supervisors

Job purpose

The Per Diem Campus Safety Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position provides supplemental staffing support and assists with campus patrols, emergency response, policy enforcement, crime prevention efforts, and special events. Officers serve as visible representatives of the Campus Safety Department and help ensure the safety and well-being of the Wagner College community.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Essential
  • Functions:
  • Patrol campus buildings, grounds, parking lots, and other assigned areas by foot or vehicle to ensure safety and security.
  • Monitor CCTV cameras, access control systems, alarms, and other security equipment.
  • Respond to calls for service, including medical emergencies, fire alarms, behavioral incidents, accidents, and suspicious activity.
  • Administer basic first aid, CPR, and AED assistance when necessary until emergency responders arrive.
  • Enforce College policies, procedures, parking regulations, and campus conduct standards.
  • Intervene in disturbances, unauthorized activities, and safety violations.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed reports regarding incidents, accidents, injuries, property damage, and other safety concerns.
  • Provide personal safety escorts for students, faculty, staff, and visitors as requested.
  • Lock and unlock campus buildings and perform routine security and safety inspections.
  • Ensure alarms and security systems are functioning properly and report deficiencies.
  • Assist with traffic control, crowd management, and safety operations during College events and activities.
  • Provide directions, campus information, and customer service assistance to members of the College community and visitors.
  • Support emergency preparedness and campus-wide safety initiatives.

  • Attend departmental meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Assist with special projects and assignments as directed by Campus Safety leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Work Experience:
  • Prior security, law enforcement, military, emergency response, or related experience preferred.

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree preferred.

Certifications

• CPR, First Aid, and AED certification preferred or must be obtained within a designated period of employment.

Licenses

  • Valid New York State Security Guard License (NYS Guard Card) required.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record required.

  • Requires extensive walking, standing, climbing stairs, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical activities associated with emergency response and patrol duties.
  • May be required to work extended shifts during emergencies, weather events, or other campus incidents.
