A high school diploma is required, though a bachelor's degree is preferred. Candidates should have previous playing or coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level.
Salem College, an NCAA Division III institution and member of the USA South Athletic Conference, invites applications for the position of Assistant Cross Country Coach. The Assistant Coach will support the Head Cross Country Coach in all aspects of the women's cross country program while helping provide a positive, competitive, and student-centered experience for Salem College student-athletes. Key Responsibilities: · Assist with planning and conducting daily practices, workouts, and conditioning sessions. · Provide instruction in running mechanics, race strategy, training principles, injury prevention, and overall athlete development. · Assist with meet preparation, race management, travel logistics, and team operations. · Help recruit and retain qualified student-athletes who align with Salem College's academic and athletic mission. · Monitor and support student-athlete academic progress and personal development. · Foster a positive team culture centered on leadership, accountability, sportsmanship, and teamwork. · Assist with scheduling recruiting visits and maintaining communication with prospective student-athletes and families. · Support team fundraising efforts, community engagement initiatives, and departmental events. · Assist with equipment management and inventory. · Maintain compliance with NCAA Division III, USA South Conference, and Salem College policies and regulations. · Drive a college-owned 15-passenger van to transport student-athletes to practices, competitions, recruiting activities, and other team-related events as assigned. · Assist with social media and program promotion efforts. · Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Cross Country Coach and Director of Athletics. Additional Expectations: Uphold the mission and values of Salem College Demonstrate professionalism and integrity in all interactions Support the holistic development and well-being of student-athletes QualificationsRequired Qualifications · HS Diploma required (bachelor’s degree Preferred) · Previous playing and/or coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level preferred · Strong knowledge of fundamentals, strategies, and player development · Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills · Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends · Commitment to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion Physical Functions While performing the responsibilities of the Assistant Women’s Cross Country Coach the employee is required to sit for varying lengths of time; bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds; occasionally stand, walk, and kneel and regularly ascend/descend stairs; use hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard; perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation, view a computer monitor; perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and receive detailed information through oral communication; express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word; and work in an office setting.
