The Assistant Athletic Trainer provides injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation for student-athletes in an NCAA Division II program. They are responsible for game day coverage, maintaining confidential medical records, and collaborating with coaches and medical staff.
Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in Athletic Training, BOC certification, and a valid Tennessee state license. Previous experience in athletic training is required, while a master's degree and collegiate-level experience are preferred.
Injury Prevention and Wellness Develop, implement, and support injury prevention programs designed to reduce athletic injuries and promote student-athlete health and performance. Assessment, Treatment, and Rehabilitation Evaluate athletic injuries and provide appropriate treatment, care, and rehabilitation under established athletic training protocols. Monitor student-athletes’ recovery progress and adjust rehabilitation plans as needed. Practice and Game Day Coverage Provide athletic training coverage for practices, competitions, team travel, and special athletic events as assigned. Respond promptly to injuries and emergencies during athletic activities. Collaboration and Communication Work closely with coaches, medical staff, athletic administration, and other campus partners to ensure student-athletes receive proper care and support. Communicate injury status, return-to-play expectations, and health concerns appropriately and professionally. Record Keeping and Documentation Maintain accurate and confidential records of injuries, treatments, rehabilitation progress, medical clearances, and related athletic training documentation in accordance with institutional, state, and NCAA requirements. Student-Athlete Education Educate student-athletes on injury prevention, nutrition, hydration, recovery, wellness, and safe participation in athletic activities. Compliance and Professional Standards Assist in ensuring athletic training practices comply with Lane College policies, NCAA Division II requirements, conference regulations, and applicable state and professional standards. Additional Duties Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer, Director of Athletics, or appropriate supervisor. Qualifications Required Qualifications A bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or a related field is required. Certification by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer is required. Must hold, or be eligible to obtain, a valid athletic training license in the State of Tennessee. Previous experience in an athletic training setting is required. Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills are required. Ability to work effectively with diverse student-athletes, coaches, staff, and medical professionals. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
A master’s degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, Exercise Science, or a related field is preferred. Previous athletic training experience at the collegiate level is preferred. Experience working within an NCAA Division II athletic program is preferred. Work Environment and Physical Requirements This position requires regular attendance at practices, competitions, and athletic events. Evening, weekend, holiday, and travel responsibilities may be required, particularly during athletic seasons. The role may involve standing for extended periods, lifting or assisting injured student-athletes, transporting athletic training equipment, and working in both indoor and outdoor athletic environments.
