About the role

Create and implement age-appropriate lesson plans using the Highscope curriculum to foster child development. Maintain a safe, nurturing classroom environment while documenting progress and communicating regularly with parents.

Duties

  • Create and implement age-appropriate lesson plans (using the Highscope curriculum) and activities for children in the early childhood program.
  • Implement patient and kind interactions with children in care.
  • Follow licensing guidelines for discipline and child handling.
  • Provide a safe, patient and nurturing environment for children to learn and grow.
  • Provide a positive classroom environment using a calm welcoming tone, focusing more on children's strengths instead of negative behaviors.
  • Complete and document (COR) child observation records, parent teacher conferences, and home visits (currently virtual).
  • Foster social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development through play-based learning.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to ensure a cohesive and enriching educational experience for all children.
  • Mentor other staff when directed and assist director in administrative duties when needed.
  • Monitor and assess the progress of each child, providing individualized support and guidance as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding their child's development and any concerns or milestones.
  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of child development theories and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with young children.
  • Ability to create engaging and stimulating learning experiences that promote curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.
  • Flexibility to adapt lessons and activities based on the needs and interests of individual children.
  • Strong organizational skills to effectively manage classroom materials, resources, and documentation.
