Certified Classroom Teachers play a vital role in helping our students achieve AAED’s mission of assisting every student with autism to be equipped and able to achieve academic, social, and behavioral excellence in an environment centered on strong character values. Teachers to implement individualized education plans (IEPs), provide direct instruction, and support students in the classroom, on the playground, and in the community.
Manage educational programming for students in the classroom.
Provide whole and small group instruction and create lesson plans using AAED approved curriculum.
Maintain a positive environment to encourage the personal, social, and academic growth of all students.
Collect, analyze, and report data in a meaningful manner on student goals.
Celebrate the achievements and successes of each student with staff and parents.
Direct and collaborate with instructional assistants/aides to support lessons and all student needs.
Maintain professional conduct and appearance.
Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
Communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers, families, businesses, and the public at large using exemplary written, verbal, and listening skills.
Demonstrate conflict management skills by actively listening, finding solutions to problems, and working well with difficult people.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provide regular one-to-one feedback, goal setting, and yearly reviews for assigned Para Educators and/or teachers’ Aides.
Ensure administrative and managerial duties are executed in a timely consistent manner.
Minimum two years of teaching experience (Special Education preferred)
Valid IVP Arizona fingerprint clearance card
Has a basic understanding of instructional methods and education curriculums.
Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to exercise reasonable judgment and maintain confidentiality.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly with parents and education professionals.
Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
Work Environment/Physical Requirements
Able to complete all components of Safety-Care training.
Perform some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling (up to 40 lbs. and above).
Assist lifting, holding or positioning students with disabilities (including physical, behavioral, learning, etc.)
Maintain independent mobility to move about the classroom and campus throughout the day including: Sitting or stooping on the floor for extended periods of time, bending over repeatedly throughout the day, and standing or walking the majority of the day.
Work outdoors year-round to assist with car line, field trips, and supervising students on playground as well as any other assigned duties.
Work in noisy and crowded environments
Ability to approach emotionally charged situations with balance and empathy.
Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Must have unaided or aided hearing ability to receive information through listening in a noisy environment.
Able to give information through speaking in a noisy environment.
Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
