  • Elementary Special Education Teacher (Life Skills) Teaching Matters Here Prelude Prep is a tuition-free public charter school serving students in Pre-K through 8th grade in San Antonio. We are seeking an Elementary Special Education Teacher (Life Skills) to provide individualized instruction and support for students with significant disabilities. This teacher will play a critical role in helping students make meaningful progress toward their academic, communication, behavioral, social, and functional goals. The ideal candidate is organized, patient, flexible, and committed to helping every student reach their potential. We are looking for a strong special educator who values collaboration, maintains high expectations, and understands the importance of individualized instruction. We believe strong outcomes happen when educators, families, and support staff work together. What You'll Do As an Elementary Special Education Teacher (Life Skills), you will provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities through individualized programming designed to help students develop academic, communication, behavioral, social, and independent living skills. Responsibilities include:
  • Develop and implement instruction aligned to student IEP goals
  • Create a structured, supportive, and engaging classroom environment
  • Adapt curriculum, materials, and instructional strategies to meet individual student needs
  • Collect, monitor, and maintain accurate student progress data
  • Implement accommodations, modifications, and behavior supports as outlined in student IEPs
  • Collaborate with paraprofessionals, related service providers, general education teachers, and families
  • Participate in ARD meetings and contribute to the development and implementation of IEPs
  • Support students in developing independence, communication, self-regulation, and daily living skills
  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local special education requirements
  • Participate actively in coaching, planning, and professional development
  • Contribute positively to the culture and mission of the school What We're Looking For Successful candidates will demonstrate:

Qualifications

  • Required
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas Special Education certification
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Eligibility to work in the United States Preferred
  • Experience serving students with significant cognitive, developmental, behavioral, or communication needs
  • Experience implementing IEP goals and collecting progress-monitoring data
  • Experience collaborating with related service providers and families

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree and a valid Texas special education certification. Preference is given to candidates with experience in self-contained settings and familiarity with AAC devices.
