Job Description

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Special Education, the School Occupational Therapist is directly responsible for the specific occupational therapy needs of students potentially ranging from grades TK–12. The Occupational Therapist will also provide training and consultation with staff, families, students, and our larger community. This position may include a combination of working from our home office and travel to school sites as needed. Essential Functions

  • Student Assessment & Evaluation Respond to requests for services and screenings for individuals to determine need for possible referral and intervention.
  • Gather and interpret data to evaluate student needs as a basis for treatment planning.
  • Conduct and document evaluation results, treatment, and follow-up.
  • IEP Development & Intervention Planning Interpret evaluation findings to parents and instructional teams while participating in the development of Individual Education Programs (IEPs).

  • Develop intervention plans including measurable goals and objectives with strategies for meeting them.
  • Monitor student response to intervention and modify strategies as indicated to attain goals.
  • Coordinate intervention plans with parents and other members of the instructional team, specifically focusing on sensory or fine motor-based interventions.
  • Family & Community Support Develop appropriate home or community programming to enhance the performance of students within their natural environments.
  • Provide support services to parents/guardians as needed.
  • Coordinate and/or collaborate with a range of individuals/agencies to promote and provide comprehensive services to students and families.
  • Coordinate with outside agencies for occupational therapy programming for students.
  • Collaboration & Program Development Collaborate with the Director of Special Education and Managing Director of Student Services in developing recommendations for protocol and procedures for Occupational Therapy.
  • Assist in developing transition plans for students moving to other environments.
  • Recommend termination of services once Educational Benefit has been achieved.
  • Professional Development & Technology Provide and/or assist in professional development for staff, parents, and/or community.
  • Participate in professional growth activities on a yearly basis including recertification in CPI as applicable, workshops, in-services, professional reading materials, SELPA training, and/or other training provided by ICEF.
  • Proficiently use technology to communicate, compile reports, and collect data.
  • Participate in building or program activities and meetings.
  • Additional Duties Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Possession of a valid certificate of registration issued by the American Occupational Therapy Association. Must believe in and live out ICEF’s RECIPE philosophy. Unwavering belief that all students can learn and achieve success in school. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to foster positive working relationships. Ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels (staff, parents, students, and community members) in a respectful manner and provide excellent customer service. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills. Must attend and participate in ICEF staff meetings and training programs as required. Must have reliable and insured transportation and a valid California Driver’s License. Must be able to travel between schools and the home office as required. Must show proof and maintain a clear TB, DOJ, and FBI Clearance. Must provide documentation of eligibility to work in the United States.

    Preferred Qualifications

    At least two years of related experience in Occupational Therapy and School-Based Therapy. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) knowledge. Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
