As a Special Education Paraprofessional at AMS, you will play a vital role in supporting teachers and ensuring that all students—particularly those with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or special learning needs—have the tools and supports necessary to thrive. Working side by side with highly skilled educators, you will provide individualized and small-group interventions, assist with behavior management, and help foster a positive, inclusive, and structured learning environment. This role is ideal for someone passionate about special education, eager to work directly with students who need additional support, and considering a long-term career in teaching, special education, or school leadership. Key Responsibilities Supervise and support with campus-wide activities such as lunch, recess, arrival, and dismissal to ensure student safety Support lead and special education teachers in delivering instruction by assisting with lesson activities, classroom management, and transitions. Work one-on-one or in small groups with students with disabilities to reinforce skills, reteach concepts, and support individualized education plans (IEPs). Assist in implementing behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and provide social-emotional support to students as needed. Substitute for lead teachers when necessary to ensure learning continues uninterrupted. Prepare instructional materials, set up classroom resources, and assist with documentation and data collection related to student progress. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to meet the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students. Maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes engagement, respect, and independence. Model professionalism, patience, and high expectations in every interaction with students, staff, and families. Qualifications & Competencies Required: High School Diploma or equivalent and successful completion of the paraprofessional exam, OR Associate’s degree (or higher). Previous Special Education Paraprofessional experience (required). Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
