St. Anne's-Belfield School seeks a full-time Social Studies Teacher and Advisor for the Grade 6 Humanities program. The successful candidate will inspire students to explore ideas, ask meaningful questions, and engage deeply with the study of history, culture, citizenship, and human experience in a student-centered classroom. In Grades 5–8, English and Social Studies are taught as distinct disciplines while maintaining a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary approach. The Grade 6 Social Studies teacher partners closely with the Grade 6 English teacher to design and implement a curriculum that cultivates empathy, critical thinking, communication, and civic understanding. The Grade 6 Social Studies course centers on the study of world religions and examines how varied belief systems have shaped cultures, societies, and human history. Through the analysis of primary sources, texts, artifacts, and media, students develop historical thinking, critical inquiry, communication, and research skills while exploring diverse perspectives and engaging in respectful discussion. In collaboration with the Grade 6 English course, students complete a variety of writing and research projects that deepen their understanding of course content and cultivate empathy, cultural literacy, and civic understanding. Create a classroom culture in which students thoughtfully engage with diverse cultures, identities, and belief systems. Facilitate respectful discussion of complex topics with intellectual rigor and age-appropriate sensitivity. Develop students' historical thinking, research, writing, and communication skills. Collaborate closely with colleagues to design meaningful interdisciplinary learning experiences. Empower students to take ownership of their learning and contribute positively to their communities. Utilize standards-based assessment practices to provide meaningful feedback and support student growth. Required Qualifications Full-time classroom teaching experience. Strong organizational and classroom management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. A joyful and developmentally responsive approach to teaching middle school students. A commitment to collaboration.
Experience teaching middle school social studies, history, humanities, or religious studies. Experience teaching in a standards-based learning environment.
