  • A warm, education-minded family in Hockley, Texas, just outside Houston, is seeking a private Pre-K teacher to work one-on-one with their 4-year-old daughter in a thoughtful, home-based learning environment.
  • This role is ideal for an experienced early childhood educator who loves helping young children build foundational skills through structure, curiosity, relationship, and joyful engagement.
  • You will support the child’s growth in early literacy, fine-motor development, handwriting, independence, confidence, and overall Pre-K readiness while creating a consistent rhythm that helps her feel secure and excited to learn.
  • The right educator will bring a calm, peaceful, and nurturing presence, along with the energy and stamina needed for dynamic lessons, meaningful dialogue, project-based learning, enrichment, and the daily physical and emotional needs of a bright 4-year-old.
  • Student Profile You’ll be working with a bright, articulate 4-year-old girl who is curious, eager to learn, and excited to begin a consistent routine with a dedicated 1:1 teacher.
  • She has a robust vocabulary, enjoys engaging with adults, and is ready for a learning environment that feels both nurturing and appropriately structured.
  • The family would like to see growth in Pre-K readiness skills, especially fine-motor development, handwriting, independence, confidence, early reading, and early writing.
  • There are no known learning differences or diagnoses.
  • She will benefit from a teacher who can balance warmth with structure, respond calmly to big feelings, and make learning feel active, relational, and alive.
  • The family is supportive, pro-education, and faith-based.
  • They hope to partner with an educator who can align with their traditional Christian values while taking the lead instructionally.
  • What You'll Do Provide personalized, one-on-one Pre-K instruction in the family’s private home environment Build foundational skills in early literacy, pre-writing, handwriting, fine-motor development, early reading, early writing, independence, and confidence Create a structured, balanced learning rhythm that includes project-based, inquiry-driven, and developmentally appropriate instruction Tailor curricular materials to the student’s exact needs, interests, pace, and developmental stage Work alongside a Thrive Educational Manager for long-term vision, goal setting, pacing, and curriculum support Use both formal and informal assessments to monitor growth, understand what is working, and adjust instruction thoughtfully Blend direct instruction, play-based learning, enrichment, outdoor/community-based experiences, and appropriate non-instructional care coverage when academic portions of the day or week are complete Use the neighborhood, community, and greater Houston area as learning resources through meaningful enrichment opportunities What Makes Someone Successful in This Role You have deep experience teaching early childhood and/or lower elementary students and understand the developmental needs of a 4-year-old You bring a structured, project-based, inquiry-driven teaching style that keeps learning purposeful, active, and balanced You are calm, peaceful, loving, and nurturing, while still able to provide firm, kind guidance when emotions run high You are bilingual in Spanish and English and can naturally support language-rich learning You are aligned with traditional Christian values and comfortable working within a faith-based family environment You bring energy, stamina, creativity, and presence to a role that includes instruction, enrichment, and some non-instructional care coverage Credentials Bachelor's degree required; degree in Education or a subject-matter field strongly preferred Master's Degree is preferred State teaching certification Candidates with equivalent demonstrated experience will be considered Experience Minimum 3 years classroom teaching, private tutoring, or homeschool instruction experience Proven ability to teach across multiple subjects and grade levels (all K-12 subjects considered) Experience working with diverse learners, including students with learning differences, gifted learners, or nontraditional educational backgrounds Skills Curriculum design: ability to select, adapt, or build lesson plans from a variety of frameworks (classical, Charlotte Mason, project-based, or traditional) Differentiated instruction: comfortable adjusting pace, depth, and method to match the student Assessment and progress tracking: ability to set measurable academic goals and report progress clearly to parents Strong written and verbal communication skills Proficiency with digital learning tools, educational platforms, and standard productivity software Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred Professional Standards Current background check (required; Thrive facilitates) Verifiable references from prior teaching or tutoring roles Professionalism, discretion, and adaptability -- you are working inside someone's home Compensation $50,000 - $70,000/yr, commensurate with experience, credentials, and placement scope Compensation is negotiated directly with the family; Thrive advocates for fair market rates on your behalf Logistics Location: Hockley, TX, outside Houston Schedule: Monday–Thursday, approximately 9:00 AM–3:00 PM Hours: Approximately 24–32 hours per week, including a blend of instructional time, enrichment, and some non-instructional care coverage after academic portions of the day or week are complete Start Date: Late July or early August 2026 School-Year Cadence: Schedule is still being finalized but will likely follow a year-round rhythm, such as 9 weeks on and 2 weeks off, aligned with Waller School District holidays and breaks, with some additional breaks possible Travel: Occasional travel with family is a plus Work Environment One-on-one or small-group instruction -- no classroom management overhead Deep, ongoing relationships with students and families rather than high-volume throughput Schedule flexibility that mirrors the academic calendar you design together Opportunity to teach the way you believe learning actually works Support Personalized matching -- Thrive vets families thoroughly before introductions, so your time is spent with qualified, serious clients Dedicated placement coordinator throughout the process Access to Thrive's educator network, resources, and ongoing placement opportunities Long-term career development: many of our educators build lasting careers across successive placements
