Position Summary
Under the direction of WELL Instructors, the Tutor/Classroom Aide supports participants in the Workforce Education and Lifelong Learning (WELL) Program. WELL learners need assistance with building reading,writing, and math skills – either in-person or remotely. The Tutor/Classroom Aide will provide one-on-one or group tutoring for adults seeking their high school diploma or improving English Language skills. The Tutor/Classroom Aide is expected to be flexible regarding work hours and instructional content; available for in-person or remote training; demonstrate maturity and professionalism and relate positively to adult learners in a multilingual and intergenerational environment. The candidate must be a graduate of the Temple WELL Program, have a strong interest in helping others and be able to utilize technology effectively. This position reports to the WELL Associate Director of Adult Education Job Details
Must be available on nights and weekends when needed.
This position requires the following background checks: criminal history review, child abuse clearance, and FBI fingerprinting.

Offer of employment is conditional upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening. Required Education and Experience:
Recent completion of the HISET, GED or ESL diploma or classes at the WELL Program.
At least one (1) year of directly related experience.
Possess ability to assist with reading, math, science, English or ESL classes.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Preferred Education and Experience:
At least one year of experience teaching adult literacy or related classes.
Knowledge of various database software applications to manage program information. Required Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to motivate, and relate positively with adult learners.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to interact with a diverse population of staff, faculty, and students.
Ability to learn and utilize educational tools, websites, resources, and technologies effectively.
Good organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
Demonstrated ability to operate standard office equipment.
Demonstrated proficiency with Internet, E-mail, Google Apps, MS Office 365 (Word, Excel & PowerPoint, and Outlook), and other computer applications as assigned.
Demonstrated knowledge of adult education, workforce development, and career transitional services.
Additional Information
Essential duties:
Supporting literacy instructors in the classroom.
Establishing rapport with learners and understanding their needs related to academic subjects.
Providing one-on-one tutoring support to adult learners who are English Language Learners or who need assistance with building reading, writing, and math skills – either in-person or remotely for at least eight hours per week.
Following written lesson plans aligned with Pennsylvania Department of Education standards in collaboration with WELL instructors.
Reviewing homework or assignments to supplement class or tutoring sessions.
Attending onboarding orientation, tutor training sessions and ongoing professional development workshops. as assigned.
Assisting students with developing study plans, critical thinking skills, and strategies for goal achievement.
