Part-Time Reporting Functions: Reports to the assigned Teacher and Director of Student Services Job Function: Assisting the assigned classroom teacher(s) in instructing and supervising students in a manner that will contribute towards their development as mature, able, and responsible students. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of a classroom teacher, assists with instructional activities by working with students individually and in small groups on language arts, math, practical skills, handwriting, arts and crafts, self-care skills, behavior management, and other areas. Monitor students and continue classroom activities if the teacher is interrupted and/or involved in other program activities. Monitor/supervise students out of the classroom as assigned. Assist in preparing bulletin boards and other classroom instructional materials. Review daily schedule(s) with assigned teacher(s). Keep daily attendance records and do clerical work related to classroom programs. Collect and correct student work as appropriate. Prepare, distribute, and collect notes to parents. Assist students and teachers with preparing copies, technological needs, and materials needed for instruction. Escort student(s) throughout the building as needed. Attend specials with students if required. Eat lunch with students or supervise if required. Assist in making contacts for field trips. Assist with special projects and evening programs as requested by the classroom teacher, Director of Student Services, or building principal (back to school bash, meet the teacher night, P/T conferences). Monitor playground activities and assist with the arrival and dismissal of students. Prepare, adapt, and modify educational materials and supplies to enhance student understanding and learning. Attend and complete successfully all staff development training and/or meetings as required by the employer. Practice appropriate hygienic precautions for students, self, and the work environment. Clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check as required under Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Act 153 of 2014 (No less than 1 year old.) Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word: hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. Working Conditions: Normal classroom setting; part-time (10-month) position as determined by the needs of the program on a yearly basis. School working hours are 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Monday-Friday per the school calendar; no more than 29 hours per week. Biweekly pay period; $16 per hour. May be required to work outside normal hours to attend school-related events, meetings, and/or staff development. Potential opportunities for summer employment, but not guaranteed.
