Maintain a safe, orderly, and positive classroom environment while the regular teacher is absent. Follow established lesson plans to equip students with knowledge and skills aligned with the school's mission.

Christian Heritage School [https://www.christianheritageschool.org/about-chs/employment.cfm] is a thriving academically and spiritually rigorous Christian day school located in Southern Connecticut. With almost 400 students, it is one of the largest K-12 Christian schools in the Northeast and draws students from numerous towns across the state. It has a diverse student body that comes together to grow in knowledge, faith, and character within a loving, grace-filled environment.
We are seeking Substitute Teachers (K-12) who will be responsible for operating a safe, orderly, and positive classroom environment while the regular teacher is absent. They will follow the teacher’s lesson plans and equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to function as mature, responsible Christians in accordance with the school mission statement.
Preference will be given to candidates who are available for multiple days, and flexible with accepting last-minute assignments, including those with less than 24 hours' notice or same-day requests.
If a cancellation on the part of CHS occurs within 24 hours, the substitute will still be paid time for expected service even if service does not occur (example: teacher’s jury duty was cancelled the night before).
----------------------------------------
The School is a Religious Organization as defined by Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and accordingly reserves the right to employ persons who profess a Christian faith and have a philosophy of ministry similar to ours. While CHS gives preference to members of the Christian faith, the School is committed to equal employment opportunity. We will not discriminate against employees or applicants for employment on any legally recognized basis [“protected class”] including, but not limited to: veteran status, uniform service member status, race, color, sex, national origin, age, physical or mental disability, genetic information, pregnancy, childbirth, or any other protected class under federal, state, or local law except those exclusions specifically provided to Religious Organizations.
Market context
Connecticut substitute teacher openings are often driven by daily coverage needs across districts, so demand can vary by school calendar and local staffing gaps. These roles are competitive because districts typically require at least 18 years of age, a high school diploma or GED, and background checks, while child care experience and early education degrees can strengthen an application. On this platform, the job requirements and benefits are AI-summarized from the original posting, helping you review key details faster before applying.
