Job description

Biblical Principles and Expectations

An Academic Specialist will help to further Malone’s mission to provide students/clients with a counseling experience based on biblical faith in order to develop men and women in intellectual maturity, wisdom, and Christian faith who are committed to serving the Church, community, and world.

III. Job Summary

The Academic Specialist is expected to schedule students for counseling appointments, provide counseling services to undergraduate students, facilitate the supervision of graduate counseling interns, and to develop and facilitate educational sessions for faculty and staff regarding mental health issues among college students and how to proceed in crisis situations.

  • Schedule counseling appointments
  • Provide quality counseling services to undergraduate students
  • Maintain timely and accurate counseling documentation
  • Facilitate weekly supervision sessions of graduate counseling interns
  • Develop and facilitation educational sessions on mental health for faculty and staff
  • Administer a professional mental health assessment to all student-athletes each fall semester and score and interpret each assessment, offering to meet with student-athletes to review their assessment results
  • Adhere to Malone University’s mission and policies
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Counseling Services

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The Academic Specialist will be expected to have

  • Knowledge and experience in the area of counseling young adults
  • Knowledge regarding the discipline of college counseling
  • Knowledge and experience in administering, scoring, and interpreting mental health assessments
  • Knowledge and experience in the clinical supervision of graduate counseling interns providing counseling to undergraduate students within the Counseling Center

VI. Education and Credentials

The Academic Specialist will be expected to have

  • A completed Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling
  • The credential of Licensed Professional Clinical Supervisor with Supervision Status (LPCC-S)

VII. Working Conditions / Physical Demands

The Academic Specialist will

  • Be supervised by the Director of Counseling Services
  • Be provided an office within Malone University’s Counseling Center
  • Be expected to work 4 hours daily,
  • Monday through
  • Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Provide some crisis counseling services during office hours and after hours, including weekends and holidays
