About the role

The Simulation Educator is responsible for designing, facilitating, and evaluating simulation-based learning experiences for nursing students. This includes collaborating with faculty to plan course activities and managing the operational aspects of the simulation center.

Job Description

The School of Nursing has an outstanding opportunity for a Simulation Educator to join their team. About this Opportunity “Reporting to the Director of Simulation, the Simulation Educator is responsible for the design, facilitation, debriefing, and evaluation of School of Nursing Simulation-based learning experiences in the simulation center. The Simulation Educator operationalizes the clinical simulation teaching experience in partnership with the faculty and the School of Nursing. The School of Nursing Simulation Center is a 7500 square foot space with 3 simulation labs, two large skills labs, 4 exam rooms, and additional debriefing spaces. Our programs provide students with the opportunity to translate theoretical knowledge into safe clinical experiences using realistic patient scenarios. The UW SoN Simulation Center supports undergraduate and graduate students with hands-on skills training and simulated “real-world” experiences, enhancing their confidence and providing real-time human and technological feedback about the development of their psychomotor, assessment, clinical judgment, communication, and diagnostic skills. Key Responsibilities Course Planning: (50%) Collaborate with SoN faculty to plan course activities facilitated in the simulation center. Design and facilitate academic activities to facilitate the success of all students in simulated clinical experiences and are mapped to course, program, and program-specific outcomes. Support and provide oversight of simulation activities that serve as clinical hours to ensure best practices that meet WAC requirements. Interface effectively with School of Nursing faculty, staff, and students prepared at varying levels of education and expertise, an interdisciplinary university community, and multiple entities and systems within the larger external environment. Implements and evaluates UW SoN curricula related to clinical nursing education and simulation best practices. Instruction and Course Support: (40%) Coach skills sessions and validations Communicate student needs or concerns, absences, tardiness, and makeup sessions to course faculty. Facilitate simulations in collaboration with faculty, TAs, and the Simulation Technology Specialist. Demonstrate application of simulation-based education best practices. Provide in-class support for simulation activities, open labs, advanced clinical skills sessions, and clinical skills evaluations. Participates in the application of learning strategies used in clinical simulation and learning by: Facilitating a skills remediation program for students in addition to simulation-based learning experiences as clinical replacement in adherence to the WA BON requirements. Supervising “open lab” practice sessions. Facilitating educational experience for nursing and health care professionals. Communicating with faculty to support student success and outcomes attainment. Demonstrate application of INACSL Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice (HSSOBP) in the design, facilitation, debriefing, and evaluation of simulation-based learning experiences in the simulation center. Implements, participates in, and contributes to a safe learning environment; keeps current with safety regulations, provides training and enforcement of safety regulation policies and procedures; inspects and maintains safety equipment; ensures safe storage, collection, and safe disposal of hazardous waste/materials, including medications. Models and instructs faculty, staff, and students in the safe use of all equipment. Participate in the collection of data linked to student outcomes and the simulation center operations, to include center utilization, and the evaluation of simulation experiences. Additional Responsibilities: (10%) Provide feedback for equipment and supply acquisition based on course needs. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications To be considered for this opportunity, your application must demonstrate you meet both the minimum qualifications and additional qualifications listed below. Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in nursing education or a related educational field. 3 years of recent clinical experience in nursing. Current Washington State Registered Nurse license. Ability to obtain CHSE certification within 1 year of hire and CNE-cl within 2 years of hire. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications WILL NOT be forwarded to the Hiring Manager. Additional Qualifications Evidence of or potential for excellence in mentoring and contributing to a learning environment that values diversity. Experience in simulation-based education and training, evaluation of outcomes, patient safety, and implementation of innovative simulation-based education and training programs. Knowledge of current issues and best practices for simulation in general and in higher education. Experience with course and curriculum design. Evidence of knowledge and experience with simulation technology, pedagogy, best practices, standards, and simulation management software. Ability to work independently and as part of a team Preferred Qualifications 2+ years of teaching in simulation education in nursing. Knowledge of Canvas LMS. Current certification as a simulation educator (CHSE) Working Conditions May require some evening and weekend hours to accommodate scheduled labs and special events within the Simulation Center. Requirements
