Asst Teaching Professor of School Counseling Compensation: $54,000-$57,000 Department: Educational Psychology Start Date: 08/01/2026 About this opportunity: The Department of Educational Psychology at Ball State University welcomes applications for a full-time, on-campus, non-tenure line faculty position in School Counseling at the rank of Assistant Lecturer/Assistant Teaching Professor. This is a campus-based teaching role centered in the M.A. in School Counseling program, with primary duties in teaching graduate courses, supervising practicum and internship students, and mentoring graduate students who are preparing to enter the profession. This is a one-year contract faculty appointment for the 2026-2027 academic year (10-month), beginning Fall 2026. Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the United States without employer sponsorship. What you'll do and what you will bring: Position Function: This is a campus-based teaching role centered in the M.A. in School Counseling program, with primary duties in teaching graduate courses, supervising practicum and internship students, and mentoring graduate students who are preparing to enter the profession. Duties/Responsibilities: Teach a standard load of graduate courses in school counseling (typically four courses each, for the fall and spring semesters), which may include foundations of school counseling, counseling techniques, organization of school counseling program, youth crisis and trauma, group counseling, partnerships and collaboration, ethics, and supervision. Provide professional mentoring to graduate students in the M.A. in School Counseling program. Supervise practicum and internship students in school counseling. Support partnerships with local schools and educational agencies. Support continuous program improvement aligned with Indiana licensure requirements and national accreditation standards (CAEP and the ASCA National Model). Provide service to the department, college, university, and profession.
Master's degree in school counseling, counselor education, or a closely related field from an accredited institution by date of appointment. Indiana school counselor license, or eligibility for Indiana licensure by date of appointment. A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience as a professional school counselor in a PK-12 setting. Evidence of effectiveness in teaching at the graduate level, or strong potential for excellence in teaching. Effective written and oral communication skills.
Earned doctorate in counselor education, school counseling, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Graduate or college-level teaching experience. Experience supervising practicum and internship students. Familiarity with the ASCA National Model, ASCA standards, and CAEP accreditation processes or comparable accreditation frameworks. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with school districts and community partners. Experience mentoring graduate students. Commitment to culturally responsive practice and training future school counselors to serve diverse student populations.
