The role involves managing the softball pitching program, including individualized training plans, bullpen operations, and game strategy. Additionally, the coach assists with recruitment, player retention, and monitoring the academic and social development of student-athletes.
Candidates need a bachelor's degree with one year of related experience or five years of direct full-time experience, specifically coaching softball pitchers at the collegiate or elite level. A valid driver's license and CPR/AED certification are required, while a master's degree and NCAA Division I experience are preferred.
Typical duties include but are not limited to: Essential Responsibilities Assists with the recruitment and retention of student-athletes. Prepares and conducts practice sessions. Teaches individual and group game skills and techniques with an emphasis on pitching, leads bullpen operations, and develops and implements individualized pitching development plans tailored to each student-athlete's strengths, goals, and areas for growth. Assists with game strategy and position assignments, including pitching strategy, game preparation, pitcher usage, and opponent scouting. Coordinates team travel arrangements and logistics. Monitors academic progress and status of team members, implementing action plans when needed. Monitors and maintains discipline and conduct of athletes to support the image and reputation of the athletics program. Promote the athletic program through community events, public speaking, fundraising, and marketing. Complies with all University and ASUN Conference regulations, as well as all NCAA rules and regulations. Remains current with all changes in NCAA, as well as changes to University and ASUN Conference rules and regulations regarding intercollegiate athletics. This includes the requirement for self-reporting any possible rule violations and participation in the annual NCAA continuing education programs including passing the NCAA certification test, if applicable. Any violation of NCAA rules is prohibited and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. Required Qualifications: This position requires either five years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field and one year of full-time experience directly related to the job functions. Experience coaching softball pitchers at the collegiate, high school, or elite club level, including instruction, skill development, and bullpen management. Current American Red Cross CPR/AED certification or the ability to obtain within three months of employment. Experience operating a personal computer and proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel throughout the country. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Master’s degree from an accredited institution. Two years of full-time professional coaching experience in a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I institution. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Proven ability to think strategically and approach challenges with creativity. Demonstrated track record of reliability, meeting goals, and holding oneself accountable. Strong interpersonal skills and experience working effectively across teams. Knowledge of all aspects of the sport and the ability to teach/coach collegiate student-athletes toward acquisition of those skills. Knowledge of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules and regulations and a strong commitment to maintain compliance with those rules and regulations. Knowledge of intercollegiate recruiting practices and an ability to identify athletic and academic talent. Knowledge of student-athlete intellectual, emotional, and social development and an ability to guide athletes toward successful completion of an undergraduate degree while participating in intercollegiate athletics. Knowledge of and ability to administer first aid and CPR/AED. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills and an ability to use independent judgment and remain flexible while prioritizing tasks. Ability to interact in a professional manner with staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment. Ability to adapt quickly to changing student needs and maintain consistent communication with supervisors and support staff in Athletic Department. Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
