About the role

The Instructional Aide supports teachers by assisting with instruction through leading whole group, small groups, or individual work, and helps prepare instructional materials. Responsibilities also include overseeing students during non-classroom times and potentially substituting for the lead teacher when necessary.

Position summary

Elementary instructional aides work alongside teachers to assist with instruction in numerous ways. The aides may lead the whole group, small groups, or work with students individually. The aide will also assist in preparing items for instruction or substituting in classrooms.

  • Elementary Education degree and state licensure preferred

Essential duties and responsibilities: The following are the responsibilities of the Elementary Instructional Aide in relation to:

  • Spiritual leadership -
  • Act as the spiritual leader of school and community.
  • Show evidence of a consistent time of personal Bible study, prayer and outreach.
  • Maintain a Christ-like attitude.
  • GENERAL –
  • Assist students by answering questions, providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance as directed by the teacher
  • Reinforce lessons by working with individual students or small groups
  • Assist students in completing classroom assessments that need to be made up because of an absence
  • Assist the classroom teacher in arranging the learning environment, including assembling and putting materials together
  • Prepare for classroom activities by distributing and collecting papers and other instructional materials for classroom instruction
  • Overseeing students during non-classroom times including in-between classes, during lunch, and recess
  • Collaborating with lead teachers to recognize issues students are facing
  • Substitute when teacher is out as needed
  • Supervision of students going to and from lunch (Main Street hallway), specials, recess, lunchroom field trips, Fit Club and car line daily, and special events
  • Kindergarten aide specific responsibilities – assist teachers as Kindergarten students acclimate to a full-time school schedule, helping students with learning difficulties, behavior issues, and peer social interactions
  • Help and assist teachers as they conduct the ESGI assessment program by providing individual and small group assessment of students as the teacher conducts whole group instruction
  • Instructional program –
  • Plan, prepare and assist with instructional materials that facilitate active learning and promote enthusiasm for learning
  • Assess and record students’ progress and provide feedback
  • Communicate, consult, and co-operate with other members of the grade level team
  • Maintain good order and discipline amongst students under one’s care and safeguard their health and safety at all times
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
  • Participate in staff, group, or other meetings as deemed necessary by the principal
  • Communicate necessary information to the students, colleagues, and administration
  • Participate in extracurricular activities when needed
  • Attend and participate in chapel and other spiritual activities presented by the administration and campus pastor
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned COMMUNITY
  • To lead their respective division in maintaining a positive Christian witness both in the school and in the community
  • To present the school and its program in a positive manner to the community

Requirements

Candidates must be born-again Christians and ideally possess an Elementary Education degree with state licensure, along with ACSI certification being preferred. Essential qualifications include a solid understanding of classroom best practices, a positive attitude, and experience working with students academically.
