About the role

Teacher Aides provide academic and behavioral instruction to students within a structured, therapeutic environment. They are responsible for direct student supervision, implementing behavior management strategies, and assisting teachers with planning and progress evaluation.

Position Summary

Teacher Aides assist teachers in providing academic and behavioral instruction and intervention based on the individual strengths and challenges of each student. In their respective classrooms, teacher aides also assist the teacher in providing students with a highly structured, safe, therapeutic environment that fosters cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth and allows each student the opportunity to experience success.

Responsibilities

Provide direct supervision to students in a safe, positive environment employing behavior management strategies as prescribed by the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention curriculum, individual plans, and Agency policies and procedures; implement incentive systems as designed by the classroom and program. Participate in staff meetings, supervisory meetings and attend trainings and in-service opportunities within the Agency and the community. Act as a role model for children in the program. Assist the Teacher in the preparation and implementation of planning documents and the evaluation of student progress in academic and behavioral areas. Provide students with direct assistance in achieving success throughout the teaching/learning process and meeting individual academic and behavioral goals. If certified as a Teaching Assistant, the Teacher Aide may perform teaching duties, as needed. Work collaboratively and cooperatively with various intra and interdepartmental personnel, families, and community agency representatives to achieve common goals. Complete required reports and documentation on time.

Requirements

Education: High School diploma / GED required Associates degree preferred. Certification as a Teaching Assistant preferred.

Experience: 1 year of related experience required
