Responsible for planning and implementing daily learning activities, nurturing the children and managing and maintaining the pre-school classroom and its equipment and supplies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

Plans teaching activities within the YWCA’s developmentally appropriate framework to encourage the advancement of children’s cognitive, social/emotional, physical and creative skills.
Supervises and works with all staff and trainees including substitutes to ensure program philosophy, values, and goals are met as well as Early Childhood Program, VPK Standards and regulatory requirements are maintained.
Recognizes health and safety hazards and protects children from harm.
Protects the physical care and nurtures children in a clean, safe teaching environment that supports their needs for physical movement, sensory stimulation, fresh air, rest, and nourishment.
Encourages the positive self-image of children through active listening, responding and encouraging independence while giving verbal and non-verbal reinforcement.
Uses positive, non-punitive discipline techniques.
Guides children in controlling their behavior by using positive, appropriate approaches.
Cleans and maintains the classroom and equipment on a regular basis.
Manages budget expenditures through the proper care and use of materials and equipment.
Helps complete timely, accurate reporting that can include but is not limited to attendance and program reports, daily meal counts, developmental records of each child, incident reports, etc.
Adapts and responds to changing and challenging conditions in ways that enhances program quality.
Develops and maintains cooperative, supportive relationships with center, staff, children and their families.
Attends and participates in YWCA in-house staff training.
Teaches students through a variety of social experiences, classroom arrangements and support materials that promote program objectives and independent and group management in an environment that protects children’s health and safety at all times as well as their needs for physical movement, sensory stimulation, fresh air, rest, and nourishment.
High School diploma/GED, CDA/FCCPC and VPK course credentials certification required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or related field preferred; and a minimum of one to two years’ experience working with preschool children in a child care facility preferred. DCF child care 45 hour training certificate required and 15 hours of continuing education each year thereafter. Red Cross First Aid/ CPR certificate needed. Required to pass DCF level 2 background check and pre-employment drug testing.
