Job Description

The Safeties Coach is responsible for coaching, mentoring, and developing student-athletes at the safety position while supporting the defensive philosophy and operational goals of the football program. This role contributes to on-field performance, recruiting, student-athlete development, and administrative support within NCAA Division II, conference, and institutional regulations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Coaching & Player Development Coach and develop safeties in position-specific fundamentals, techniques, and scheme implementation Teach coverages, alignment, footwork, tackling, run support, and communication in secondary play Conduct position meetings, practice drills, and prepare players for games Evaluate player performance using film and practice observations Support student-athlete academic success, personal growth, and accountability Game Planning & Analysis Collaborate with Defensive Coordinator and defensive staff on opponent breakdown, game strategy, and adjustments Prepare scouting reports and defensive evaluations related to pass defense and safety play Participate in game-day coaching responsibilities, including sideline adjustments Recruiting Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes for the safety position in compliance with NCAA Division II rules Maintain recruiting records and databases, and manage communication with recruits Assist with on-campus visits and recruiting events Administration & Compliance Ensure compliance with NCAA Division II, conference, and institutional policies Monitor academic progress and eligibility of assigned student-athletes Complete required reports, documentation, and administrative tasks Represent the football program and university professionally Program Support Assist with camps, clinics, community engagement, and fundraising activities Coordinate with strength and conditioning staff on developing position-specific training Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Administration Assist in transportation of athletes to/from athletic events, which may include driving a full-size passenger van or other large capacity vehicle. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree/or equivalent working experience from an accredited institution Playing and/or coaching experience with defensive backs, preferably with safeties Knowledge of defensive football schemes and safety techniques Understanding of NCAA Division II rules and regulations Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Must have a State of Texas or Arkansas class "C" vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment. Acceptable driving record and periodic completion of van safety course

Preferred Qualifications

Collegiate coaching experience, preferably at the NCAA Division II level Recruiting experience at the collegiate level Master’s degree Experience with video analysis platforms (e.g., Hudl, XOS) Other Requirements Ability to travel extensively and work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold professional and ethical standards. Physical Requirements Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Working in all weather conditions, exposure to high noise levels, standing throughout the day, the ability to use a loud voice at practices and events and physical involvement in all practices and workouts with players.
