MISSION

RCMA Wimuama Community Academy, a “B” rated Title I Charter School in Hillsborough County, is seeking an energetic, creative, and passionate Middle School Math Teacher, Grades 6-8!

RCMA Wimauma Community Academy, serving the area for more than twenty-five years, is dedicated to opening doors of opportunity for the children of Florida’s farmworkers and agricultural migrants. Most students in our small, community-oriented classes are English Language Learners of Central American heritage with big dreams of making their mark. Our teachers often comment on how privileged they feel to work with young people who so greatly appreciate learning! In order to best serve our student population, this community school runs a dual language program school (50:50, English/Spanish) from K-5th Grades.

Our successful K-8 Charter School is located in Wimauma, Florida in Hillsborough County. Our school serves approximately 375 children, our small size allows us to serve our students and their families on a personal level.

Redlands Christian Migrant Association, RCMA, is a non-profit corporation serving Florida agriculture workers and their children for more than fifty years. RCMA is recognized as a “School of Hope Operator” by the State Board of Education, a prestigious designation for non-profit, charter school operators.

Purpose of position

Under the direction of the Charter Academy Principal the Math Teacher works collaboratively as part of a professional instructional team to carry out teaching assignments aligned with the Charter Academy’s mission and educational program. The teacher provides engaging, standards-aligned mathematics instruction that supports the academic growth of middle school students. Through teamwork and shared responsibility, the teacher contributes to the educational program components, fosters a positive and inclusive learning environment, and supports student achievement through data-informed instruction and continuous collaboration with colleagues.

Essential duties and responsibilities: include the following; however, other duties may be assigned:

1. Safeguards the health and safety of all students.

2. Assists students to achieve academically in the areas of language, literacy, math, social studies, science, arts, and physical development through classroom instruction utilizing approved curricula and strategies.

3. Assists students in developing cognitive, social, emotional, and psychomotor skills appropriate to age, grade, and ability through daily instruction.

4. Establishes rapport with students and parents. Communicates student progress effectively with parents to as to facilitate meaningful two-way communication.

5. Establishes classroom routines and procedures. Formulates student behavior standards in the classroom, identifies causes of inappropriate behavior, and works to correct it utilizing available resources.

6. Selects, develops, plans, implements, and evaluates learning activities, daily lessons, and student performance. Maintains class records and individual progress of each student

7. Assists in assessing student entry-level, develop and implement Student Achievement Plans, including short and long-term goals.

8. Works as a team to develop curricula, learning and teaching strategies, discipline policy, and resource identification.

Education and experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Must possess a temporary Teacher's Certificate or be Certified as required by Chapter 231.02 Florida Statutes. One to three years of teaching experience is preferred.

Desired qualifications

Understand child and adolescent development through documented experience and /or appropriate course work. Have an educational philosophy consistent with the learner-centered philosophy of the RCMA Charter School. Have a willingness to work in teams with degreed and non-degreed coworkers. Committed to pursuing a variety of effective instructional methods. Is committed to the learning process of the student and family. Experience with economically disadvantaged families. Knowledgeable of state and local educational standards, curricula, and assessment systems. Experience with multicultural and diverse populations and settings.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree and a valid Florida Teacher's Certificate. One to three years of teaching experience and bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish are preferred.
