About the role

The teacher is responsible for planning unit lessons and implementing curriculum based on Common Core and North Carolina standards. Key duties include managing classrooms using a positive behavior support model and utilizing technology to provide differentiated instruction.

Socrates Academy, a charter school with a focus on partial Greek immersion and the Socratic method, is seeking classroom teachers with strong teaching abilities, an understanding of pedagogy and instructional practices in elementary education, and an enthusiasm for connecting learning to real life application.

The Socrates Academy classroom teacher reports to the school leadership team and works closely with his/her grade level team.

Candidates should be energetic and progressive minded, with a willingness to work collaboratively with grade level and vertical teams.

Job responsibilities include: Team planning of unit lessons and grade level curriculum Strong understanding and implementation of Common Core and North Carolina Standard Course of Study Student data analysis Classroom management, utilizing a school wide positive behavior support model Use of technology in the classroom, including a mobile computer lab Differentiated instruction to meet the needs of each learner Continual professional development to keep up-to-date on curriculum developments and trends in the field of education Commitment to professional growth through participation in professional learning communities and development opportunities Job requirements include: Experience in teaching outside of a basal curriculum Extensive knowledge of the Common Core and North Carolina Standard Course of Study Willingness to teach in a team model Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment Ability to think, work and teach interdisciplinary content NC Elementary Education certification Exceptional candidates will: Have at least two years of teaching experience in an elementary setting A strong background in literacy education including experience with the differentiated reading model.

Professional development and evidence of high fidelity teaching in reading foundations Demonstrate a passion for the education profession and supporting student achievement Possess a track record of collaboration and evidence of effective teaching experience

Requirements

Candidates must hold an NC Elementary Education certification and have experience teaching outside of a basal curriculum. Preference is given to those with at least two years of elementary experience and a strong background in literacy education.
