About the role

The Education Specialist creates and implements high-quality curriculum and enrichment programming for the COMPASS Afterschool and Summer Programs. They provide coaching, training, and performance support to staff to ensure developmentally appropriate educational delivery.

Overview

RISE Academy – the COMPASS After School Program – Education Specialist is responsible for the creation and the implementation of high-quality curriculum and enrichment programming for the COMPASS Afterschool Program and Summer Program. Working closely with the Program Director and the Program Supervisor, the Education Specialist provides coaching, training, and performance support to Activity Specialists, Group Leaders, Youth Workers, and volunteers to ensure consistent, engaging, and developmentally appropriate educational programming across all required COMPASS content areas.

Key responsibilities

Develop, coordinate, and manage curriculum and enrichment programming across all required COMPASS content areas.

Design, organize, and oversee the implementation of lesson plans that align with DYCD COMPASS requirements and program goals.

Provide observation, coaching, supervision, training, and ongoing support to Activity Specialists, Group Leaders, and Youth Workers to promote high-quality program implementation.

Maintain curriculum materials, activity schedules, and instructional resources.

Build positive relationships with participants, families, school staff, community partners, and program staff to support a safe, welcoming, and engaging program.

Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required qualification

Bachelor's degree required in Education related field

Minimum of one (1) year of experience teaching and/or creating lesson plans

Demonstrated experience coaching, training, and evaluating staff.

Experience developing or implementing curriculum, lesson plans, or enrichment programming for school-age children.

Experience working in an afterschool, education, recreation, childcare, or youth development setting.

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach staff and collaborate with families, schools, and community partners.

Knowledge of DYCD standards and experience ensuring program compliance is preferred.

This is a Part- Time position with 9 hours per week. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, and weekends as needed, at assigned location.

Requirements

A bachelor's degree in an education-related field and at least one year of experience in teaching or lesson planning are required. Candidates must have experience coaching staff and working in youth development or afterschool settings.
