Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation has an opening for one (1) full time Student/ Family Engagement Specialist at the Franklin K. Lane Campus with Multicultural High School. The Student/ Family Engagement Specialist will work as a member of the School Team to ensure that all students and families optimize all programs and initiatives that are available to them as members of the Multicultural community. Our Team offers a holistic approach toward improving academic performance driven by strong and collaborative partnerships among principals, parents, teachers, and CBOs. In our work, parents are real and active partners in their children's education. The school climate is joyful and positive. Expanded learning opportunities are standard. An integral part of this approach is the integration and alignment of school- and community-based services, such as health, mental health, counseling and academic enrichment.

  • Duties: Develop, promote, and oversee programs and initiatives designed to support scholars' civic, social, emotional, and academic development Collaborate with Multi CBO partners to help streamline attendance improvement programming including but not limited to (ELT, SYEP, Peer Group Connection, and School-Based Health Center) Support with attendance outreach by performing daily attendance calls to a cohort of students, and home visits as needed Plan and organize dual language (Spanish) workshops and presentations both virtual and in-person for families on topics specific to the Multicultural High School Community Develop strong, trusting relationships with students, teachers, and families. Build relationships with professionals and organizations in the Cypress Hills community and across New York City, concentrating efforts on agencies who meet the need of Multi students Build relationships with professionals and organizations in the Cypress Hills community and across New York City, concentrating efforts on agencies who meet the need of the Multicultural families Play an active role in school events and initiatives that support student enrollment, attendance and graduation including but not limited to: monthly town halls, hosting open houses, and monthly cohort meetings. Support all school teams with the implementation of Family Engagement programming and events at Multicultural High School Inform families of community resources that could provide needed assistance and work closely with the Community Resource coordinator to continually develop and update a community resource guide Actively participate in all data collection processes including inputting information into required databases and sharing it with the staff and school administration Updating the school bulletin boards once a month with all data and upcoming events. Demonstrate a commitment to school reform work Represent program to funders; meet all reporting requirements for funding sources Demonstrate commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social change. Attend all required division and agency meetings. Responsible for organizing and outreaching to Middle Schools for recruitment. Responsible for outreaching to STH families and organizing the materials that are offered to the families. Responsible for leading social committee meetings and checking in with Admin during weekly meetings to organize and update on the progress of upcoming events. Other duties as requested.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree preferred Bi-lingual Spanish Required, both written and verbal Demonstrated experience working in an educational, social service, or family support service setting Demonstrated experience working in a Bi-lingual Spanish setting and with a recent immigrant population Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills to work and interact effectively with a diverse community of stakeholders A self-starting team player with excellent organizational skills Experience with social media, such as: Facebook and Instagram Familiar with the community and support agencies Flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the families Flexible hours to accommodate work in the evening and some weekends Experience with child development and effective parenting techniques Experience working with families that have diverse cultures and economic backgrounds Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs: Outlook, Word, Excel, SmartBoard, and PowerPoint Comfortable speaking in front of large groups of professionals and parents Experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative professional relationships Compensation: $53,000, dependent upon experience.
