About the role

The Nurse Practitioner provides advanced primary care services, including assessing, diagnosing, and managing acute and chronic health conditions across the lifespan. This role also involves supervising clinical staff and participating in quality assurance activities to ensure adherence to regulatory standards.

The ETSU College of Nursing, Office of Practice invites applications for a PRN Family Nurse Practitioner Floater to support multiple nursing clinics.

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides advanced primary care services in accordance with the Tennessee Nurse Practice Act.

This role is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and managing both acute and chronic health conditions across the lifespan.

The Nurse Practitioner maintains accurate and timely documentation of all patient encounters and clinical services provided.

The Nurse Practitioner provides supervision and guidance to assigned clinical and support staff, fostering a collaborative and efficient care environment.

Participation in quality assurance and continuous improvement activities is an essential part of the role, ensuring adherence to best practices and regulatory standards.

A strong commitment to health equity and the needs of vulnerable and underserved populations is central to this position, reflecting the clinic’s mission and values.

Work Location and Travel

• This is a floating position that provides coverage at multiple clinic locations as needed. Employees report directly to their assigned clinic each workday. Travel reimbursement is provided only for travel to Hancock County.

Position Status

• This is a temporary position with the potential to become permanent based on organizational needs, funding, and employee performance. Permanent employment is not guaranteed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge and skill in assessment, diagnoses, and treatment of common acute and chronic health conditions.

Knowledge of recognized standards of care.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Ability to organize and set priorities.

Required Qualifications

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with preparation in advanced practice nursing (PMHNP, FNP, ANP, PNP or other specialty as required for position.)

Current unencumbered license as Registered Nurse in Tennessee or compact state.

National certification in appropriate area.

Certificate of fitness to prescribe.

Experience as specified for each position.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience in advanced practice nursing (FNP, ANP, PNP or other specialty as required for position.)

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job across various settings in the classroom, simulation, clinical, and/or community. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and balance.

The employee may occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, and/or move more than 100 pounds.

The employee must be able to perceive and respond to sounds and alarms; communicate effectively with others; and have a sufficient vision regarding near, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception as well as the ability to observe and monitor situations in full and dimmed light.

The employee may stand, walk, and/or sit in various settings for up to 12 hours at a time in addition to the preparation and closure of a clinical shift.

Rapid mobility may also be required on occasion.

Physical expectations of an assigned clinical facility may vary and be subject to change.

Stress levels may be high due to frequently dealing with numerous students, patients, family members, and other healthcare providers. This position demands concentration and the ability to work in emotionally-charged situations.

College of Nursing Overview

The College of Nursing is part of the University’s Academic Health Sciences Center, which also includes the James H.

Quillen College of Medicine, the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy, the College of Public Health, and the College of Health Sciences.

The College of Nursing is the largest in the State of Tennessee, offering multiple tracks for students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs.

The nurse-led clinics under the College of Nursing feature four Federally Qualified Health Centers and two Student Health Clinics.

The largest Community Health Center in Johnson City provides primary care, behavioral health care, pediatrics, and women's health with an on-site Dental Clinic, Radiology Department, Lab, and Charitable Pharmacy.

Area unhoused individuals receive a continuum of services at the Downtown Day Center.

Two school-based clinics in Hancock County provide care for students, staff, and the surrounding community.

ETSU students and staff are served by the University Health Center on campus, while the nurse clinic at University School serves that population.

The College of Nursing Community Health Centers have received federal funding for more than 30 years, accepting all patients regardless of their ability to pay.
